Deeper issue here…the acceptance of crime regardless if it seems minor it not leads to where many major cities are today and that is the near lack of enforcement of major crimes. You see your vehicle with nothing in it is fine to you but I wonder where you stand when that same criminal element that “rummages” through your car decides to point a gun at your head will make any difference to your mind set. Unfortunately my guess is no and that is how you vote. Many people that are forced to live in those areas will disagree with you greatly. Crime is crime. Not enforcing laws and accepting it leads to city downfalls. Seriously look at the crime stats for every major American city and look at who has been running those cities for 50 years. Each of these cities is a shell of it former self. And guess what it started with thinking just like what you have listed here. Damn shame.

Yeah, feeling the need to leave your car unlocked to show the thieves you don’t have anything feels like giving up. What’s next, doing the same for your house? Then nobody can have anything unless the thieves have just as good of stuff or better? That’s one slippery slope i hope we never go down.

They could still sleep in your car, use it as a toilet, have a hobo orgy, etc.

In my experience, it’s been best to take all valuables out of the vehicle and leave it unlocked as compared to locking the door.

My wife 100% agrees with this. So much so, I'm not sure she even knows how to lock the damn car.

When I lived in:

Baton Rouge: car broken in

River Ridge: nope

NOLA (Broadmoor): nope

Metairie: sure did

Mandeville: nope

Dallas (lower Greenville): lived in place with gated parking. The one night I wasn't in my gated parking, I got broken into

Houston 'burbs: nope

Strong disagree. Recently there have been groups of car thieves all over the country who canvas neighborhoods checking for unlocked cars. They simply walk away from every locked door. The correct message is the exact opposite of your thread. Lock your doors and you are no longer the easy target.

This. Constantly seeing posts on Neighborhood with videos from home security cameras showing thieves checking vehicle doors if they are locked. They move on if locked. No broken windows.

But if you don't hear the breaking glass, how do you know to go outside and shoot them?

I lived on fortification for over ten years. Never had a break in despite my neighbors all suffering them. Why? Nothing was in my vehicle.

Good idea, leave doors unlocked. Wait for crooks to get in car then pop a cap in there arse. You shoot a few of them they quit messing with your stuff. They will know to avoid your address. Yes this is legal in Louisiana. Your car is a extension of your home.

Louisiana is a shoot the carjacker state but that only applies if you are in your car. You cannot shoot someone for breaking into your unoccupied car in your driveway. Someone breaking into your unoccupied car is a property crime and the use of lethal force is not justified.

Anyone looking to cause destruction or steal your property should be shot. Than shouldn't be a crime for the owner.

I've had my vehicle broken into. Nothing was taken because when the thief tried to unlock the door from the inside the car alarm went off and he bolted.

Sure, I was out a broken window but at least my car wasn't stolen.

You're 3-4 years older than me. So between the two of us we have roughly 35 years of car ownership with apparently only 1 window break. I'll take those odds to keep some random person from rummaging through my stuff or doing who knows what else inside of my vehicle.

This is the stupidest fricking thing I ever read.

These people are looking for quick hits and they are not trying to make noises because they don't want to get caught.. Or worse, have an armed property owner come out ready to shoot them.

Maybe in the city? Where its noisier? But a car window isn't that easy to break. It will draw attention.

I'd rather have to get a window replaced than let them fricks get to my shite.

BTW what do you drive and where do you park every day?
