Most vehicle burglars just check for unlocked cars and don't fool with locked cars.

If I don't lock it, they will probably steal my gun from the center console.

Our cars live in the garage.
No breakins in our hood.

let’s talk about locking your vehicle door. In my experience, it’s been best to take all valuables out of the vehicle and leave it unlocked as compared to locking the door.
Dumb arse it doesn't work that way.
Locked doors...move on to the next vehicle until they find one that is unlocked.
Do you use that same philosophy with your house?

This was true for a friend of mine, young gingle guy, who had a Jeep w a soft top and lived in the city. Leave the doors unlocked or they are gonna cut thru the top.
He of course never left anything of value in the Jeep. Nothing bad happened.

98% of vehicle break-ins i have come across is because the door was unlocked. People are lazy and most petty thefts are crimes of opportunity. They will walk around an area, check to see if the doors are unlocked. If it is locked, they move to the next vehicle.
Smashing a window is a great way to set off an alarm and draw alot of unwanted attention.

Strong disagree. Recently there have been groups of car thieves all over the country who canvas neighborhoods checking for unlocked cars. They simply walk away from every locked door. The correct message is the exact opposite of your thread. Lock your doors and you are no longer the easy target
A narrow view. it always escalates to broken windows unless perps are being caught and punished. OP is exactly right.
If you don't make your vehicle a "target of opportunity," they will eventually just make it one themselves.
If most people are locking their car doors, it is almost a guarantee that it will escalate to window smashing. And eventually breaking and entering of houses. Unless law enforcement starts really ramping up and/or encourages you shooting the frickers, this is historically how it has always gone.
"Lock you doors" Karens make me laugh.

I'm not sure this is a very realistic scenario
