Perhaps most astonishing is that only 35 percent of women who have earned MBAs after getting a bachelor’s degree from a top school are working full time, compared to 66 percent from second-tier schools.

Yeah you can go frick your self with that comment. You don’t know a damn thing about my situation.

Maybe selfish isn’t the right word I should have used.

Just saying....it’s a waste of sooo many years of training and sacrifice and $$$$$ for med school to stay home.

My wife probably won't practice past 42 or 43. I am 12 years older than her and by that time I will be fully retired. That said she is a CT surgeon and interventional cardiologists are taking over much of that field's work so she isn't leaving the public nor her group in the lurch.

I think as long as a person's education never came with an explicit expectation of doing a particular job for some period of time they can do with it as they please.

You are right. I know nothing about your situation. But, your situation doesn't apply to what I said. Go back and read it.

And, being a mother/father is by far the greatest thing any of us will do. I hope you get to experience it. And, just as much for the sake of your children, I hope you look back on this and understand that your comments were amazingly wrong (and frankly insulting).

I'd suggest that given it's her money, and her years, that she fully understands the cost. Rational people who make that decision certainly don't do it because they are lazy and selfish. She'll likely regret some part of that decision the rest of her life. She probably knows that, and is still making the decision for the benefit of her family. It's a HELL OF A LOT CLOSER to a sacrifice than it is to being selfish.

Of course, I guess it's possible that she's just someone who is exceptionally smart, driven, etc. but always dreamed of not working and jumped at the opportunity.

Bet she has a shite ton of student loan debt that she complains about having to pay back and thinks she should have her debt forgiven.

I bet her dad is a retired neurosurgeon and she has zero debt.

I was about to ask how long can you stay out of that specialty before you are no longer considered competent in your field.
Over Ten years and not competent for a minute of it...

And you dont know a damn thing about being a working mom but that doesnt stop you from commenting on parenting topics like this all the time.

I am truly sorry about your situation but i am sure that one day you will be a mom. With that you will gain more of an understanding of such things. I hope that day come soon for you. ( i am not being sarcastic or rude, i do empathize with your situation)

She reminds me of that story some poster recently discussed who is so hurt over a miscarriage that she expressed hateful and evil wishes on friends/family who are having a child.

But, I can't understand at all a mother or father being unable to even comprehend how staying home could be a negative thing...or considered selfish. To me, it shows a basic non-understanding of what good parents are

Meh. I have no problem with stay-at-home parents but to act like you can’t be good parents if both work is nonsense.

Stay-at-home moms are great but they come with their own set of problems.

Didn’t say that. Pretty much said opposite.

What I said is anyone who can only think of giving up your profession as selfish wouldn’t be a good parent.

But kids change people for the better all the time. And maybe her husband will give her a positive model to follow.
