The list is extremely short. The best option is private school in New Orleans, if you care about your kids.

Seriously. You can tell the ones who are on here bragging about it all the time are the ones who did the least and piggyback on other kid's achievements.

If you plan on staying in New Orleans in the long haul it really doesn't matter where you went to school. This isn't Manhattan. The job market isn't sophisticated. If you're part of the small Rex/Comus set you can get a nice job at a bank or something straight out of college, but otherwise all that matters is where you went to law school or med school or getting an MBA, because 95% of the really good jobs here require one of those, and once you're there, you'll be surrounded by people from all over. So it boils down to how you want to spend your money for 4 years and what kind of kids you want your kids to be around.

Franklin, Lusher, Haynes, and Pat Taylor are all great but magnets. The best and really only acceptable publics are in St. Tammany Parish (minus Salmen), St. Charles Parish, and belle chasse.

You're getting down votes but you are correct. Go to any private high school, don't dick around, get a degree in law or medicine and you'll do fine. MBA, I don't know much about.

Having been a student of one of the Jefferson Parish magnet academies, it's not particularly hard to get in. As long as your kid did pretty well within the last 3 years (nothing lower than a C) and has pretty good LEAP scores it should be a piece of cake. Also it may depend on what part of the Metro area you live in. I think Haynes is only eastbank of JP, but I know for sure Patrick Taylor is anywhere in New Orleans Metro but only provides buses for JP residents.

Also all of the magnet academies have a higher average ACT score than any of the private schools. So...

I'll grant you Jesuit has one thing that Franklin doesn't, Roman Catholic indoctrination.

Word of caution for Protestants: My friend was a haphazard Methodist from North Louisiana who married a Catholic girl. He sent his kid to Catholic schools because "what difference does it make?" Well, that shite took with his kid, and now he has a devout little papist under his roof.

My niece lives on the WB and goes to Haynes. Not sure if they registered her on the up and up but it may be possible.

closest to NOLA, St Charles is probably the best, If in JP you can go to Kenner Discovery which is really good. (it's adding a grade every year) the other magnet in Metairie is set to move to Kenner in four years or so. So Kenner will have the two big Eastbank JP magnet schools.

NOLA has quite a few good schools too. Most posters here are catholic school guys and they will always steer you towards their alma mater.

This.
If you want to commute from Belle Chase or St Charles Parish, the commute isn't that bad.

For me, you can't beat the value of a good Catholic school education though.
