I graduated from SLU in 1996 with a degree in Accounting. I mailed it in while there and graduated with a 2.6 GPA. My boss has been after me for years to go to law school so I finally took the LSAT today. It wasn’t as hard as I thought. I have no aspirations of getting into LSU Law or even Loyola Law. What are my chances of getting into Southern Law School with a 2.6 GPA from 1996 and what will likely turn out to be an average LSAT score.

As a lawyer, I would encourage you not to take that dive in your 50s. You’re never going to see the return on that investment at your age. No one is going to hire a 55 year old attorney fresh out of law school.

I would look at it this way. How happy are you now? Sounds like you are with a great company and they appreciate you. How happy will you be if you could "do" they extra stuff you spoke of?

Cause you're gonna be probably unhappy from the time you begin until you pass the bar.

Also, note what the poster said, "Its a life."

Finally, I'd have some kind of written agreement what you would earn after you accomplished this. To me your age is not a factor if its something that will make you feel fulfilled.

You’ll get more credit for being older and “Professional” provided you practice any form of acct.

That said, you’d better hit at least a 152…..

But, as other said, WHY?!?!

Is this really even possible? Serious question

How about your wife for starters. Maybe she’ll appreciate having more time with you.

I agree with the other poster - you won’t realize true return at your age. Plus 4 years is a lot of dedication but I applaud you for taking that step. More power to you

Law school maybe. Put in minimum effort. But you can’t fake the bar.

I got into LSU with similar grades. It’s not that competitive.

When? 1980?

You won't get into LSU as a white male with a 2.6 unless you have a near perfect LSAT, and even then, it's unlikely.

They have an evening program that would take me 4 years. Be done by the time that I am 55.

If you do the SU route, do the night program. It's a completely different standard with a completely different population than regular SU classes. Southern is one of the worst law schools in the US, but the night program is a mid-level law school program.

Man if your company will pay for it and you’re willing to do the work then go for it!

It’s a lot of work and I wouldn’t want that debt at your age. First year is going to be hell.

Thanks for all of the responses guys. Let me say the below:

- My company will pay for this.
-This will be the evening program at Southern.
- I have been at my job for 15 years and will be there until we sell or the owner dies. Either way I will cash out.
- I don’t want to practice law. I want to use my accounting and operations background and experience and get a law degree to set my self up to be “consigliere” so to speak which is what I do now. If I want to work for someone else later I will
Need the law degree for this position.
- I do not necessarily care if I pass the bar. I will certainly take it but you do not need to pass the bar to be an in-house counsel.
I was in house counsel for our company using legal zoom when we were a mom and pop and didn’t have in house counsel.
- I always wanted to go to law school but my parents told me that I wasn’t smart enough. That was pie in the sky to them as I was the first in my family to even get a Bachelors degree.

The end.

IIR-Governor Foster went to law school (after his term) at Southern and I think he was in part-time or evening program.

Yes, Foster and also the head of the Louisiana System is currently in it.

I will not be paying a dime for this. They even paid for me to take the LSAT.
