Yeah I think their actual rule is that you have to be registered to park on campus. They never enforce it after 4:30 though, except in the OP's case.

Yeah...car not registered to you...tell them you are an alumnus thinking about donating.
"What ticket?"
"What ticket?"

20. Other Hours • The hours between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. each weekday, all day Saturday and Sunday, and holidays when University offices are closed are not hours of zone parking. However, a parking permit is required at all hours on weekdays (day and night). After the hours of zone parking, a parking permit must be properly displayed to avoid receiving an unregistered ticket.
from the parking website

I was pretty pissed since the ticket is $100 and I had no idea that was even a rule.
Ignorance is no excuse.

i went to their website after i got the ticket and it says you need one at all times to park on campus.
Seriously? That's BS

The OP is seriously the first person I've heard that's got a ticket for it. That's pretty unlucky.

Wait so I cannot visit campus as a non student on week nights?

Did they break and obtain your VIN #?

Similar thing happened to me at nicholls last night. I park on campus and jog around. I parked at 5:50 last night and got back to a ticket on my truck at 7:00. Only vehicle in an empty lot after hours.
Nicholls can go do something that anatomically impossible.

I don't know that they can really do anything to enforce it if you are a non student. I would just act like it never happened.

Evidently. You'd think LSU would want people to come and enjoy campus

Nope, at least they didn't put it on the ticket

You can get tickets anywhere, not just as LSU. I got one of my cars when it was parked on the street in front of my house.

quote:i became friends with the lady that processed the appeals lol. She said they usually allow 1 freebie per year if you appeal. You next one that year they will take 75% off, then 50% then 25%. So your 5th will be full price.
Definitely appeal first.
I got a ticket for unloading in the unloading area.....something about an unloading tag?
I appealed and didn't have to pay......but I knew the student worker in that office so that may have helped (probably helped) - (definitely helped).
No clue if this is the case but i seemed to call her a few times every year and she remembered me.

I was always under the impression that parking rules were as follows:
-visitors can park in designated paid or reserved visitor parking
-students/faculty with permits can park in their designated zones during school hours (until 4:30) and can park in any non-designated zones (e.g. commuter zone, resident zone, faculty zone) anywhere on campus after that time.
-anyone without a permit gets ticketed
The after 4:30 rule just indicates your permit allows you to park anywhere on campus. Not that anyone can park anywhere on campus. At least that's what I've always thought.

Not to be dense about this but I can't believe what I am reading.
Am I correct to understand that (as a tax-paying citizen of LA) I can't drive my car and park it in a paid spot at a state university after hours? I am just not allowed to bring a vehicle on campus during the work week at all? What if I have business on-campus?

My daughter got one for the same thing. She lived on campus as a freshman; so, we registered her car. The following year I told her not to register it since she walked to campus for class. But she was in a sorority and drove to her meetings there at night. Apparently, they search the parking lots for students who do this and they found her car, unregistered, and gave her a ticket. It was $50 then.

If you have business on campus, you would simply ask the party you were meeting with about a parking pass. I worked for a department in the Business school and we did this all the time.

You can park in a paid visitor spot if you do not have a permit.
