After reading the below the changes are too late.
I wonder who Williams wants at LSU…This frick was a horrible selection by Edwards and a big part of the problem.
Blacks, Hispanics, and Pell Grant eligible enrollees have been the focus of LSU and will continue thru at least the fall of 2027 freshman class. By the time fall
Of 2028 applicants start to get submitted whites will no longer be the majority of undergraduates at LSU, and the trend will then be able to continue naturally as more whites decide to go elsewhere until whites will struggle to even be the plurality after awhile.
But, but, but Tate loves sports and didn’t force black head coaches on us just because they were black, and He increased ACT scores (even though the switch to Super Scores and increased the numbers of those not submitting scores to being over 50% of the freshman classes were the main reasons). Dolts got played and are actually still getting played.
quote:That means that besides 2026 continuing the trend that 2027 will also continue the trend. There is no reason to limit it to below 3.5 GPAs for 2027 unless you want one additional freshman class to reward scholarships without having to factor in standardized testing or have it used to question your decisions.
The LSU Board of Supervisors voted Friday to reinstate a requirement for applicants to its Baton Rouge campus to provide standardized test scores, but students will not need to reach a minimum score to be admitted.
…At first, the new test requirement policy will apply only to students with GPAs below 3.5, but then for all applicants starting with the summer 2028 semester.
quote:Also, if they don’t add enough weight to the scores on top of having no minimum score they don’t help as much as they should.
Blanchard assured Williams and other concerned board members test scores will be just one part of what LSU’s admissions team is taking into consideration. The provost said the scores could also be helpful for other purposes, such as placing students with low scores into the right classes so they can catch up to their peers.

“There are plenty of kids who we want at LSU who don’t come from households where they can afford to get that additional help on testing,” board member James Williams said. “There seem to be very compelling reasons for us to use test scores as one criteria, but not determinative and mandatory.”
quote:
Since adopting test-optional admissions, LSU has significantly increased the number of Black and Hispanic students it enrolls as well as those who rely on federal Pell Grants to pay their tuition.

I really never understood how black folks weren’t embarrassed that standards were lowered to give more acceptance.
Speaking for myself, I'm embarrassed.

So did the vote pass? Is standardized testing back?
Not like it should be or like it used to be.
No minimum score required, just one factor among many to be used by the committee so its effect can be watered down, and this doesn’t apply to GPAs at 3.5 or above until the fall of c2028 class meaning the next 2 fall freshmen classes will continue same trends (2026 for sure as was already in process but now 2027 will also likely not change the trend much).
Below 3.5 GPAs only made up around 24% of the 2024 Freshmen class. The problem is that 3.5 GPAs and above are inflated for many enrollees including those getting scholarships, so pushing off standardized tests being required for 3.5 and above until 2028 really limits any effect even this weak implementation of requiring standardized tests can have for the 2027 class (2026 still had voluntary test submissions for all applicants).

It absolutely did. Even black democrats I know were saying LSU was getting too ghetto.
It was obvious last year during football season. So much so that we passed on tailgating the rest of the season after the 2nd shooting on campus

LSU about to become a lot more restrictive. The will funnel kids who dont make the cut to LSUNO LSU S LSU E etc

LSU should be more restrictive, it’s the flagship university. I think when my daughter applied, the gpa was 3.0 or close to it and a minimum test score. Ridiculous how LSU is being ruined. I guess it wants the Pell Grant funds.

Agree that is Rousse plan make it a real Flaghip and offer more scholarship money to high performing. Louisiana kids .Today was one of first steps getting UNO under LSU was also part of plan as well as reorganization of the medical schools.

(right up until the shootings on campus during gamedays) yes, plural

They get around this by using the mental gymnastics that says that if they perform poorly on an exam, it’s the fault of the exam
I remember a major argument that tests were biased were they used terms like regatta. Why is one group more likely or less likely to know what a regatta is?

Tate distracted everyone by caring about athletics the one thing F King didn’t do…so people bought in with him. Simple minded. While he was destroying the academic university and promoted “diversity”.
Not putting a minimum on test scores is brain dead but the new dorms have to be paid off somehow

Deja vu all over again!
Up to the late 1980's LSU had open rather than merit-based enrollment. Chancellor Wharton and Provost Carolyn Hargrave fixed that error with great opposition by setting admission standards and raising them over a few years. The classroom experience improved immediately. Under open enrollment 1st-year classes were designed to flunk out the weak students. Under selective admissions those courses were redesigned to educate the capable students. A return to the forgotten higher standards of Wharton/Hargrave will definitely improve LSU.

While I agree, there should be a minimum score requirement, I think the requirement of everyone turning in a test score is a good thing. LSU can no longer post bogus ACT stats about the incoming freshman class. Let them admit underachieving students, the standardized test scores statistics will reflect that.

Should have never left. Can maybe understand during Covid but absurd it’s taken this long.
