Not everything needs to be a god damn lawsuit. That’s what’s wrong with this state.
If my daughter was killed the way she was, I would sue Everybody. I would probably hate the world and god as well.
frick everybody.

Aside from the Lyft driver, all of the people named bore some responsibility for her demise. Including Reggies insurance company who kept renewing their policies in spite of their decade long track record of serving alcohol to minors. I’m not a litigiously minded person. I don’t hold most lawyers to a high regard, but to say that this evening was a massive frickup by all parties involved is a massive understatement. Any single one of them right down to the staff walking around her when she fell, could have changed the course of her short life by intervening

Probably should raise your daughter better. Her death and the actions that happened were completely preventable.

You sound like you either don’t have college age kids or you have no clue what they are up to.
Humble yourself or the universe will bite you in the arse

That would be my emotional response as a grieving parent, I think. Hopefully, I'd eventually come to my senses.
But I can't fault this guy for going in full guns blazing.

In my opinion it does. Seems deserving of empathy not judgement.
I have a son at LSU. I’m sure he has skirted death more than a few times. Plenty of kids from great homes with loving parents make horrific mistakes at this age. Lots of people casting judgment on this thread.

Exactly. After funding her siblings’ college accounts, if I had enough money I’d buy out as much of Tigerland as possible and tear down some of that dumpy area for the betterment of everyone in BR. As that is likely out of the question, I’d figure the best foundation possible to donate to that might prevent this from happening to someone else’s kid.

This sleazy lawyer is fricking baffled that you didn’t want to sue your friend whose car you were in when he got hit by a drunk driver

This is pretty standard for civil suits. Sue everyone and see if something sticks. Less burden of proof.
The fact that he is suing a dozen employees from Reggie's really pisses me off. There are probably freshman college students who are at no fault at all that now have to deal with a lawsuit.

Yeah, but Lyft has deep pockets and insurance. Any lawyer would include them

Bartenders who knowingly serve alcohol to minors are responsible for their actions. Don’t kid yourself.

You sound like you can’t take personal responsibility for things. This wasn’t a case of some random girl going out once in an unfamiliar town.
Is it tragic she was raped and died? Yes.
Should those responsible pay the price? Yes
Is the parenting and even the dead child blameless? No
A lot of fault to go around and fine to be mad at people but everyone shares some fault.
Being mad at the lyft driver is misplaced, he should be mad at a long list of people including the ex wife, the rapist, her friends that left her, the bar.

It’s literally called uninsured motorist coverage. By law, the carrier could not raise his friend’s rate for making a claim.
But we, the taxpayers, appreciate his noble footing of us with the bill.

I got hit by a drunk driver going 100 mph and hurt my back. I went to a lawyer to try to get my medical bills paid. he was all excited until he found out the DD had an insurance company that just went under. Then he started saying well we can sue the driver of the car i was in, her parents and your parents insurance. I said no way and ended up only getting my medical bills covered by the state.
If you could have recovered from the insurance company of the car you were in or your parent's insurance then the owner of the car and/or your parents were PAYING the insurance company for that coverage. Instead of recovering your losses from a for-profit company that was being paid to cover those losses you chose to suck off the government teat. You made all the taxpayers in LA subsidize those insurance companies. How magnanimous of you.

I know the police didn’t charge him with a crime, but does that mean he wasn’t partially responsible? I ask because you can be negligent and the cops not have enough evidence to charge you with a crime.
