The plaintiff if trying to recover damages from the insurance policy/insurer that insured the Lyft driver. In order to do so he has to name the driver as a defendant (i.e. the insured). Will he be able to recover? Who knows? The jury will decide that. But I doubt the plaintiff or plaintiff's attorney is trying to recover personally from the driver.

It wasn’t slut shaming to point out that she willingly went with them and they didn’t just push her out of the car. But if you said that on day one like a few people did, you were as guilty as the rapists in some of their eyes.

I'm not advocating for anyone. Just telling you why the driver was sued...to get to the insurance policy. Not the actual driver. They won't try to collect anything directly from him.

I feel bad for the dad, but the bar shut down. Now it’s just about getting money, not stopping this from happening again. Nobody forced his daughter to get drunk even if they didn’t stop her.

If you are going to file a suit, you sue anyone who could reasonably have some percentage of responsibility. Its up to the courts to decide if they don't.
