Let’s talk about how the proposed City of St. George is just another form of legalized segregation.
Hahahahahaha just like how nfl owners are modern day slave owners.

You know, mayor, it didn't have to come to this. The St. George folks offered an olive branch 2 years ago. All they wanted was for the EBR school system to build another high school and a few more middle and primary schools out on that side of the parish, and they told them to pound sand. You, and people like you, are why the city is in this mess. Rather than try to compromise, you spearheaded efforts to spike the football in their faces and ensure they wouldn't be allowed to try again. Well, you reap what you sow.
^^^^^^^ ALL OF THIS

The city-parish estimates it would lose $48.3 million annually, or about one-fifth of its general fund.
Broome needs to shut the hell up. Her administration is one of the main reasons why the St. George movement took off. She's scared shitless now because St. George looks to become a reality. Maybe she should've thought twice before she hired a bunch of race baiters, published a report blaming white privilege for many of EBRP's ills, and called the ST. George supporters racists.

I just moved entire family to Austin hill country 3 weeks ago. Just move and let them have. Let it collapse into itself like a dying star. Born and raised there but couldn’t take it any longer.

I would like to see how many white owned firms and how many black owned firms are competing for these bids.
That would help explain the 98%.
Dammit I should have read the whole thread. Hats off to scruff.

Are there any other Parishes where there’s a Mayor / President Office? It just seems like such a total conflict of interest. How can one person fairly and unbiasedly represent unincorporated and incorporated areas?

Lafayette Parish is this way as is Orleans. Granted, in Lafayette Parish, the City of Lafayette is the only incorporated area in the parish, and in Orleans, the entirety of the parish is within the city of New Orleans.
Baton Rouge may have arguably made sense to govern in this way at the time to system was instituted, but no longer. There needs to be a metro council and a city council, a mayor elected by the city and a parish president elected parish wide.

Might as well try and find out instead of the status quo.
Agreed, which is why I'm for it. Hopefully it works to perfection.

I'd guess the lion share of parish contracts go to Barber Brothers, Boh Brothers, Whstton/Smith and other highway and sewer contractors. Those type companies, engineering companies and insurance companies and trash and garbage companies.
Contracts don’t just appear in anyone’s mailbox. Most have to be publically advertised and bid according to Louisiana Public Bid Law and are normally awarded to the lowest bidder.

Annex Exxon, tax it $54 mil., and BR is ahead of the game b/c they don’t have to service all of the St. George area.
St. George is made up of small taxpayers. Why is BR beating the little kids when the big kid is ‘sleeping on the couch’ in the other room?

What Mayor Broomstick can't see is that you can't fix a culture that doesn't want to be fixed.
The ones that truly want to better themselves find a way to do it. The rest just sit there with their hand out.
