I've taught my 12 yr old son the meaning of Meet Me at Sonic, hopefully he will pass it on to the youngsters.

Back in the old days guys were sent to the gym. The football coach would give them boxing gloves and they would slug it out one quit or both were worn out.
Life was so much simpler and the biggest fear was your dad would find out.
Today the local tv station would have a week long series on brutality in schools. Parents, board of ed members would be interviewed and the coach would be suspended.

Under the North bleachers in the gym. There was one way in and out. If the office sent you to go see Coach, he'd take your stuff and empty your pockets and lock them in his office and hand you boxing gloves. You and the guy you had a problem with would go under there and have it out in private with the coach ready to step in if things got out of hand.
The coach would even take requests. If you and another guy wanted to meet up to beat the crap out of each other after school with nobody to interfere, the coach had an unspoken agreement that if two guys showed up at his office right after last bell, he'd set you up and let the two of you settle things before practice started while the teams were still filtering in and dressing out. More often than not, two guys who beat the piss out of each other ended up being good friends.
