I don't remember the story about three police officers kidnapping and raping a woman. How would an outside agency gather more evidence? Are the cops still on the force or were they fired. You seem pretty upset about it, do you know the woman personally or were in someway involved.

I'd like to.
I would have to actually get the job first.

I don't know what your house budget is but look at Beaver Creek in Zachary. Very close to US 61, Outside the city limits but in the school district of Zachary, really quiet and pretty good golf course. We have lived there for 3 years and love it. It's about a 45 minute drive to Plaquemine.

Until an 18 wheeler flips on the bridge every friday at 4 PM.
Zachary is nice, otherwise.

Just to give everyone an update on the situation. We ("as a family") decided to move west of the river. Waaaay west of the river. Due to the nature of the profession I'm in, a midpoint of Lake Charles and Baton Rouge turned out to be the best option considering we wouldn't have to up and move whenever I got the unexpected layoff or something better opened up. Won't go too far into detail but Lafayette is a great town. Allows me to work and collect per diem, allows her to go to a reputable school in her chosen major, plus side I don't have to worry as much about my house being armed robbery'd or the police raping my family (thanks for whoever posted that, bunch of Mary's on this board).
Thanks again guys.

You're going to commute from Lafayette to the west bank of the Miss River and back every day? That seems like a long commute to me, but, at least you won't have that bridge traffic. You are smart to avoid that bridge traffic.

We call that landmass Acadiana.

Might wanna check out Breaux Bridge. It's supposedly one of the happiest towns in America, and you could cut about 15 minutes off your commute each way.
You're still looking at about an hour long drive each way, but it's not a bad commute at all.

Decent hiking trails at Frenchtown road park and rural life museum.
BTW, these threads always end up trashing BR, so I do appreciate that there are some folks here who can still make solid and rational post. At this point in time there are many great, established neighborhoods in BR and a shite ton of things to do and places to shop and eat.

Use Plaquemine Ferry & live in Prairieville
This. Get something close to the East Baton Rouge county line. You'll be close enough to Baton Rouge to enjoy it when you want. Good schools. House prices are not as crazy.

Move to Prarieville
This may not be the best advice for someone that will be working in Plaquemine and has family in Central - unless he wants to ride the ferry every day.
I'd get a place across the river so that my daily commute would be shortest and wouldn't depend on crossing the river. After that I'd look at easiest access to both work and family which would be Zachary or Central. Avoid the i-10 and i-12 cluster F's if at all possible.

Move to P-ville and take ferry for work, that side of the river is like living in 1978 and Baton Rouge is shite unless you can afford to live off Highland Rd or Bocage type community
