Wife and I have rented cabins near Cosby a few times. I would do it in a heartbeat but have no idea what school systems and stuff look like if you have children.
I'm actually going to be working at Smoky Mountain Elementary. Really nice school with beautiful mountains behind it.

Rent until you see the area and what your interests are the Knoxville commute is not bad you are going opposite Directions of traffic. If you need a realtor that knows that area let me know, there is a small group of Lafayette transplants there in Cosby 2 generations. Nice people. They been there 15 years.

Enjoy the Redneck Dragon, Hwy 32. There is also a little trailer off 321 that has great homemade shine when you get in with the locals and they trust you.

One of my hunting buddies moved from BR to Johnson City 3 or 4 years ago. He loves it and keeps telling me I need to move up there.

If you have access to Facebook, suprisingly there was a thread from a couple of years ago on relocating from Louisiana to Cosby, TN. It is a post by Kenneth Ryder and it is under the “relocating to Tennessee group. Check it out….

there is a place on kingston pike in knoxville that has crawfish.
Shrimp Dock, they fly in seafood and have an assortment of Louisiana products for sale.
Cosby is rural, and you're going to want to find ways to avoid the traffic in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
There's a really good little distillery called Bootleggers near there, they do flavored "moonshine" like all the others but also make some excellent bourbon.

I stay in Cosby for vacation. What industry is there for employment? I just assumed everyone was on government assistance.

I steer clear of Gatlinburg 100% of the time unless I'm actually going to Gatlinburg.

Wife and I born and raised in Baton Rouge. Been in Germantown, TN since 1996. A long way from Cosby but you will love the absence of a state income tax.

Hopefully it’s nowhere near G’burg and Pigeon Forge. But a win getting out of Louisiana.

I'd stick with bottled water if I was you.
It's Farragut, Knoxville's d-bag dumping ground. Glad I left.

No state income tax, cooler weather, access to mountains...could be worse.

After 35+ years in South Louisiana I was offered a position in Cosby, Tennessee and I've accepted. I'm not too familiar with the area but I've heard good things. Does anybody here have any knowledge they'd care to share?
Congratulations.
Very nice state. Enjoy!!!

I'd say that Cosby, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville make up the "Golden Tringle" of the Smoky Mountains. You'll be smack-dab in the heart of the most beautiful section of the Appalachian mountains in its entire length.
Enjoy. And post pics of your new surroundings frequently on here!

For real, if you get back deep in the woods up that way you might encounter some melungeons.
