There was a guy in our pack that worked on his car for MONTHS- we didn’t stand a chance :lol;

when my oldest started scouts he (unbeknownst to me,) had a derby coming up shortly, I came in from a trip from Sao Paolo, flying all night for 10 hours, two hour drive home, the wife meets me with a box with a block of wood in it and a plastic bag of accessories, she said “your son has a Pinebox derby in two hours,” I got him up and we built him a little car (I’d never done that,) went out to the derby and won it, won the next round, then got beat in the grand poobah round

The President of the bank where I worked, who was my boss, was an Eagle Scout.
He had a standing order that if two job applicants being considered were even in their skills, education, etc., but one was an Eagle Scout, that one was to be offered the job first.
True story...

a story as old as time, and truth be told that is a justifiable tie breaker

When I was kid I was a Boy Scout…until they asked us to wear the uniform to school.

That's a fine accomplishment. I'm one of five brothers that all earned the rank of Eagle. We're five years between us and all earned Eagle in the same year! All our kids opted for sports and 4-H though

Congrats to your son, and to you for being a good parent.
I was a scout and I did not try to make Eagle because I got interested in different things. Those that did go on and finish always earned my respect.
same. i got life but sincerely regret not getting eagle scout. about the time i got a drivers license i also discovered girls and weed and boy scouts got back burnered.
oddly enough...my dad died about 3 yrs ago and my stepmother is just now starting to go through all his stuff. she sent me a box last month with some things she thought i'd want and it included his merit badge sash an eagle scout neckerchief. it choked me up a litte.

Imagine lying about a pine box derby from 40 years ago

That’s fantastic! Congratulations to your boy.

That’s a great accomplishment!
What state are you located in? I ask because I have something that is made for Eagle Scouts and I’m not worthy of having it. Message me if you’re in La.

I am in my mid 40s and have had a fairly successful career, I am an Eagle Scout and have it on my résumé
It is a point of conversation every time I’ve interviewed somewhere.. loads of Eagle Scouts out there (including parents of Eagle Scouts)

When I was growing up, if you were in the boy scouts you got picked on. I was in the cub scouts for 1 year because I wanted to do pinewood derby races and after the first race my car got disqualified. There might have been a small part in the back that was slightly drilled to fit a little more weight onto it. It was my brother's idea.
There was this "team" that won it every year. It was a group of daddies... 4 of 5 of them and evidently someone helped them build the car for them.. It was a pipeline. You had to be connected to someone who was involved in the group.. Small town politics type thing so it seemed like the only way to beat someone from that group was to cheat. My first race was against one of the cars from that group and my car won. Someone claimed there was a part of my car that appeared to have something that wasn't there when it got weighed. They were right. We probably should have shaved off a little bit so it wasn't arse obvious.

Fun fact: Lowe’s will give scouts 50% off supplies for their Eagle project
Wish my son was going for scout. He would definitely need a new table saw, drill press, planer, compound miter, and fridge at 50% off.

Congrats to your son from another Eagle Scout.

I thought more people would recognize the accomplishment, but sadly they do not
