I know a guy whose 18-y/o daughter died from Fentanyl in cocaine that she bought in a club. He always says that she was "poisoned"...at first I thought that this was inaccurate and just his way of coping with the loss. But upon further reflection she really was poisoned by something that she did not intend to consume. You can argue that she "accepted the risk" by buying street drugs of unknown origin but it seems harsh to suggest that she deserved the death penalty for this decision. It does illustrate that a single poor decision by a teenager can have permanent consequences.
It's unfortunate, but she did accept the risk. It is well known that fentanyl is getting into all these drugs. I don't know why we're normalizing recreational use of illegal substances, and being young and dumb may explain it but doesn't excuse it. That's the landscape now; these drugs are being consumed with a known higher degree of risk. Deserved has nothing to do with it.

If you want the clean cut product you have to be close with the dealer.
Buying from people you dont know and especially at a club was not very bright. I wouldnt even have done that in the early 2000's.
If I dont know whos supplying to some degree, I am not touching the product.
Nowadays, I would just stay away from all that shite completely. Its not worth it. Alcohols not worth it either.
With the level risk out there now, people absolutely should be steering clear of it.

Recreational drug use is WAY lower than it was in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Kids today actually aren’t doing drugs, but the one time they may try it, it could be fatal.
Should kids do cocaine or molly? No, but they shouldn’t drink or do other dumb shite either.

That's great news, but it's still happening. It's still their choice and there's still consequences. It's already risky behavior that's been amplified.
On the grander scale, the older I get, the more annoying it's becoming to have to institute policies and measures to look out for people doing dumb things all in the name of lessening the damage they do to society as a whole. It's hell of a lot cheaper if they'd just act right in the first place.

Is doing a little bit of coke 2 or 3 times a year really that bad is the point. These are otherwise completely normal college students.
You shouldn’t do it, full stop, we get that. But people do things they aren’t supposed to do every single day.

Well, you don't get any sort of "high" from Naloxone, and it is now an over the counter medication.
I do not condone the use of opioids, but if a kid overdoses, I would much rather them have access to this. I think it costs ~$50 per dose.

Narcan saves lives. Unless you enjoy watching Americans continue to die at the hands of fentanyl at increasing rates, you should support it's availability.

Good idea. More colleges need to do it.

Do what you want and keep everyone else out of it. It's not society's responsibility to absorb the aftershocks, but that's what's happening.

Not sure why you think this is a bad idea.
Our generation did our share of recreational drugs like weed, coke, MDMA, xanax, etc when we were college aged. And a bunch of kids today are doing the same things today.
Only difference between today and 25+ years ago is that back in our day, we didn't have to worry about our stuff being laced with fentanyl.

I probably hate seeing this more than most honestly because every time I see a person who I know is selling out to a drug or drink I feel it again for a slight second and it sucks.

Normal kids don’t do coke or opioids. We need to stop normalizing self destructive behavior and they need to take responsibility for their actions instead of expecting the rest of society to do it for them.

quote:I'm not saying they are out "looking for fent." I'm saying they know it's likely in the "heroin" they are doing. They know it's likely in the pressed pill they bought. They're just taking a chance that it isn't enough (in combination with whatever else) to kill them.
frick no. This is very wrong.
They might think they're doing heroin or oxy, which isn't much better, but fent is there because it's cheaper and stronger for the manufacturers and dealers. Vast majority of addicts do not want fent.
The majority of people who OD aren't college kids who did a bad line of blow that was laced with fentanyl. They are junkies who know every hit of whatever they are doing likely has fentanyl in it.

Yes they do, and have been for 50 years

What is wrong with you?
The stuff is everywhere. Cops, ED personnel and everyone in between now use gloves that shield fentanyl. It is invisible and wiped/residue left on surfaces you'd never imagine.
Have you ever thought that some of these are accidental?
Prob not considering your degenerate replies to substantial posts. Hope life treats you well.
