Does it shock anyone that the bill was vetoed?

Supporters argued the law would lower car insurance rates
Nobody really believes this would happen, right?

This bill was pure trash. They probably won’t even fight for an override too hard and will just shuffle the deck and try again next session.

That’s what opponents say, but they never offer a solution to the problem.
Louisiana is second highest to Michigan in auto insurance rates. Why? And we are way higher than the national average. Why?
Business has pushed tort reform. Will it help? I don’t know, but what are the lawyers offering? What is Gov. Edwards offering?
I’ll answer, they are not doing anything. They are for the status quo. In my mind, they lose the argument by default.

Louisiana has consistently been #1 and #2 for auto insurance premiums for decades. And is the only southern state in the top 10.
49 other states handle civil cases related to auto accidents differently.
But we’re the ones doing it correctly?
Interesting that our Democrat governor who advocates for changing the status quo to make Louisiana a better place doesn’t want to do it here.

I’m guessing the part that got messed up and needed rework.

Too true. It’s a fricking game. Whore v. Whore. See e.g., Aiken who has never seen an injured person in his career. I’m not in that game too much anymore but there are many many others.

Get rid of direct action in 3rd party cases and collateral source and you will get somewhere on premiums.
I’m fine with evidence of not wearing a seat belt as well. There can be a common sense bill that could lower rates.
I would like to see promised reductions from the industry before any Bill is passed.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from Louisiana politicians

The Republicans were idiots for not bringing something to his desk before his re-election so he could say I didn’t support or go against any tort reform bill
They don't reform either...BUT they can say they tried.....knowing JBE would veto. It's a very old game.

Plenty of people who oppose the bill are not against 2 year prescription and the seat belt provision. People are pushing back against the idea that the ONLY reason insurance rates are high is because of lawsuits. It’s much easier to blame everything on PI attorneys than to actually take on the insurance companies to get lower rates.

It’s easy to say that and never, but we are still second to highest,
What can we do to get rates down? Business put forward a plan. what is yours?

There were multiple bills filed to tackle rates from an underwriting and actuarial angle.
LABI killed them in committee. Why is that?
