The overwhelming majority of who die on bikes die because they were riding over their head or like idiots. I had a friend die on a sportbike he shouldn't have owned. Most idiots on bikes don't even understand counter-steering. I bought an R6 with only previous experience racing dirtbikes several years back. Did a bit of street riding til one day my buddy and I ran from the cops at over 100mph on Hwy. 90 between La./Ms. - even making passes on those old one-lane each way bridges where you can't see oncoming traffic. When I got home Told myself, " You're a 40something year old dentist making baller money with a wife and 3 kids at home, and you're running from the cops at 100+ to avoid a ticket???" Never rode on the street again, just did track days for the next couple years. But when I was riding sensibly, I never had a single close call. If you take a rider safety course and don't ride like an idiot, you'll likely be fine. Life isn't living without taking reasonable risks. But if you're getting a bike so you can ride like an idiot, do yourself a favor and get a track bike.

I'd rather have a scooter than a motorbike.

I don't know about that...there are a whole lot of bad or distracted drivers out there. Someone could be eating, texting, fidgeting with something in the back, drunk, etc and can make a mistake. Obviously, you could be in a blind spot and the driver could not make a good enough effort to look and take you out.

I had that dream as a 14 year old kid... After watching "Dirtbike Kid" as a little dude. My dreams became reality when my step-dad found a Suzuki DR 250 4-stroke and brought it home...
I rode the shite out of that bike.. it was too big for sure, but I tore up my fricking neighborhood like a little son of a bitch
That bike actually taught me the concept of "manual shifting" and I was only 14!

It is if you want to last longer than a few weeks. And before you start, in my decades of riding I've seen plenty of guys on dual sports do stupid shite.
LoL, not really. You can last for awhile, even a lifetime not knowing how to ride a bike with skill. Lots of bikers do it. The best are the 20/30 year "experienced" bikers who take classes like the MSF with their SOs and can't do basic drills.
Hooligans exist on all bikes, that is without question. I just suggest dual sport as it is a good way to learn all conditions without worrying about cosmetic damage to the bike. Those things are tanks for the most part and can take a beating.

More people die from incidents with other hazards than hooliganism, especially other cars. Lots of hooligans out there that live full lives too. I know a couple of elderly gap locals that like to put a whippin on unsuspecting tourists.
Risk management is a personal choice.

I'm trying to figure out what you just typed.

Are you sure about that Forkbeard? You sound awfully defensive.....besides, according to Sabi, you have to be full of shite to be a real biker anyway sooooo

I have zero interest in getting a motorbike. It is similar to a jet-ski....it's such an awful investment. It's a waste of money and extremely dangerous.
That said, it's your choice and you only live once.

yeah, I was quick typing and made some mistakes on my cell phone.
What I meant was more motorcyclists die from other things than acting like idiots on the bike. Getting hit by other cars on the road is a biggie, especially incidents like people turning left in front of bikes because they don't see them.
As for the elderly gap locals, deals gap has a popular curvy road in East TN/WNC for sports cars and motorcyclists. I know a couple of elderly individuals who have been riding motorcycles for pretty much their lifetime that are local to this road. They pretty much ride like hooligans every time they swing a leg over the bike.

This thought process cracks me up. You don't buy a bike, car, or boat as an "investment."

Not only the enjoyment from just riding the bike, but the people you meet as well and so much more. I have met some of my best friends thanks to a motorcycle. Seen so much good from random strangers from being on a motorcycle.
There really is a reason why a lot of people take this risk day in and day out. This forum gives Darth a lot of shite, I have given him some too, but if I was on the side of the road with an issue and he saw me, I have no doubt he would stop and be out there helping me get the bike back running as other people just zipped on by...

A friend of mine was killed on a V star yesterday in jacksonville Florida.
At the hospital we call people that ride motorcycles organ donors. My suggestion would be to not ride a motorcycle especially if you didn't grow up riding bikes.

This saying is true. There are 2 types of riders: the ones that have been down and the ones that will go down. My brother and I both had bikes. I wrecked mine a month before Katrina and he just wrecked his a month ago. Both wrecks were not our fault.

Buy a four wheeler, join a hunting club and enjoy. If you don't hunt join anyway and help around camp. Will keep you alive.
