If you have an iPhone they're on the podcast app that comes with the phone, or you could use his website.

Nice, I've been on an intense WWI kick the last couple of months. It's pretty depressing though.

It's incredibly depressing but also very eye-opening for someone with very little knowledge of WWI. Sadly, when I was in school, WWI was just passed over to get to WWII.

Did anybody enjoy King of Kings? I love the podcast but couldn't figure out where he was going with that one. Seemed unfocused.

I didn't enjoy episode 1, but 2 and 3 were great.

Where's the best place to get them?
the best I've found is the Stitcher app

I have my favorites playlist that I change up from time to time that automatically has the newest episodes of whatever podcast ready to stream.

I listen to my favorites every night before bed. This HH will probably take me a week to finish, unless like sometimes I get too into them and stay up until the wee hours of the morning.

I have logged over 2,400 hours just on my stitcher app

Ghosts of the Ostfront simply didn't have enough meat in it IMO for the subject matter, granted it came out much earlier and I think Carlin wasn't doing as exhaustive work at that time in his podcasts.

I agree with you on this 100%. I did enjoy Ghosts of the Ostfront, don't get me wrong. But it left me a bit disappointed and wanting more. I felt in this series Carlin did as most Western historians have done since WWII and try compress the entirety of the Eastern Front down to three things (1) Operation Barbarossa (2) Battle of Stalingrad and (3) Fall of Berlin. There was so much he skipped over or at bested mentioned only in passing.

I have a variety. I'll do political stuff as well.

One of the ones I've beinged watched recently that only has like 7-8 episodes is 'CrimeTown'. Pretty interesting.

Couple others of my favs:
'this American life' is really well done
'Common sense' is another Dan Carlin
'Stuff you should know'
'History of Rome' and follow it up with 'History of Byzantium' not as well put together as others but informative
'Twighlight History' which is a complete change of pace and different, the dude does like alternative history and sets you in the place kinda of like twighlight zone. Funky to say the least but I've listened to a few.
'99% invisible' has a couple cool topics
'Freakenomics'

Those will get you started in the podcast game and you will start to see what you like.

If you like people just shooting the shite and interviews, the 'Joe Rogan Experience' is good. Dude is much more intelligent than I'd have ever given him credit for only knowing him from his fear factor days and UFC broadcast. He does some long but interestingly interviews.

This is how I felt as well. He could've done entire episodes on Leningrad, Kursk, etc.

I enjoyed it but you could tell he just didn't have as much with historical record to go on as with other podcast.

He tried to not reference Archemide(sp?) as much as he did but a lot of the time it seemed like the only account.

I've got a question, the Tsar Bomba was the biggest weapon ever set off, do you think we (we being humans) currently hold a bomb bigger than the 50 megaton Tsar Bomba that the Russians dropped?

What makes it so great? Is it just well thought out history?

He makes it very easy to understand. Especially with the political shite that was going on in that time period. He also doesn't pick sides, he just straight up tells it as best he can from neutral ground. He has incredibly interesting inputs that we don't necessarily think about when we read about some of this stuff. He's also not a blinded American, you know, the "Back to Back World War Champs" tank top wearing guy? Yeah he's not like that.

But he doesn't sugarcoat anything, probably what he talks about the most is the carnage for the common soldier. Which is who the war affected the most.

I thought American Peril was an excellent lead in to Blueprint, it really sets the stage for the outbreak of American influence in the world.

Blueprint came across very easy and really showed just how close the Germans, by themselves mostly, came to winning the war.

Ghosts opened my eyes to the shear numbers involved. I had no idea that 7 out of every 8 Germans that died in the war died on the Eastern Front, or that the Eastern Front was, by itself, worse than all of WWI combined. It really exposed the extermination and slaughter each side dished out. When I look at it, the Germans were incredibly efficient, and insane, in their wagging of war. The amount of casualties is staggering.

This. He does that with all of his podcasts--tries to give the listener the micro-level perspective. That sometimes gets lost in the shuffle when studying these things.
