How in the hell will people in that area afford it? Rouses is expensive as hell

north Baton Rouge
It's sitting right between BREC's headquarters and Louisiana Department of Agriculture's Headquarters, right down the street from Melrose/Afton Oaks and LADOTD's test lab, it's maybe a 2 minute drive from BRCC and right on a major commuter route. Not to mention it's also very close to Capitol Heights and Goodwood.
It's north Baton Rouge technically, but it's not the same north Baton Rouge as a location at Choctaw at 38th or Hollywood at Plank would be. So it's not like Rouses is taking a massive risk here.

That’s near Thai Pepper. Not a bad part of town at all. Only 2 miles from Catholic High.

Rouses at Burbank and Lee always has security guards who never do anything.
I actually watched them escort a lady out of the store a few months ago. They were not playing with her. Definitely has gotten a weirder looking clientele recently.

Yes sir! And get this... They knock down the price from $8.99/lb to $6.99/lb some days. I'm not sure exactly when or why they do this but it's a damned good deal at $6.99/lb. We load up fried chicken and shite we can keep in fridge for a few days and reheat and eat.

Rouses is hiring more than 200 employees to staff the store.
Must be hiring from afar, as I doubt you'd find that many NBR'gens willing to work.
Wonder how many fulltime security folks will be on hand, or will grab n go be ignored.

Florida Boulevard recently has seen an uptick of activity along the corridor, which has long been considered underinvested. All Star Catering owner Brian Medlin opened Opie’s restaurant in the former La Boilers building across from the Bon Carré office park, in the spring.
This article must have really been grasping at straws. This place didn't make it a year.

The line at the seafood counter is going to be wild

LSU was out for the holidays for a couple of weeks. They are probably a little less busy than normal.

I saw the video of the basketball Americans eating for free at Walmart... I expect this to have similar results.

And chicken wing bones from the hot bar.

I see they put in 4 parking spots reserved for shoplifters. Nice

If it's on the way to or from work, it probably will get commuters stopping in from those areas. Everyone talks about Amazon, but there already were lot of people that work in state offices and private businesses along Florida blvd near there (State Police HQ, LaDEQ, BREC, Gerry Lane, Dept of Ag, BR General Hospital, both of the community college campuses, etc.).
They didn't bother setting it back into the existing shopping center. They built a whole new structure right on that intersection for max visibility. It will do very well if they keep up with the same level of effort Rouses puts into their newly built stores in the Baton Rouge area.
If they half-arse it like they did to the old LeBlanc's stores that they bought....this place will get trounced by the nearby Albertsons or the AG stores. Rouses has proven to be capable of producing both very good and very bad grocery stores.
There's a solid Thai restaurant across the street BTW.

I quit going to Rouses bc I was paying > $50 every time I went in there for a few items while someone next to me had a shopping cart full with their EBT
