I have a scale that uses some electrocurrent voodoo that gives me all kinds of numbers like BMI, BFP, muscle %, water, bone density, etc. Not sure how accurate those numbers are, but it gives me a good baseline for comparison.

BMI is overrated as a measuring tool of healthiness.
So why is it that there’s so many people in the US (the south in particular) that fall into in the overweight or obese category? It seems to be an ok enough (not saying it’s perfect) measurement for the rest of the world but not for places like Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, etc. apparently.

Their “healthy” BMI would have most people looking like skeletons.
Stop going for the extremes. It’s the people who are not even close to the upper range of healthy weight yet talk about how the lower end of the range would make them look bone thin. The middle range should be the goal.

My fat spots are love handles, which is good and bad. That tire is very noticeable compared to someone who holds more weight in front, so I look worse at a lower (over)weight. But it also catches my attention sooner and gets me to get off my lazy arse and shrink it probably more than someone who holds weight more subtly.
I'm pretty much the opposite. It's ok because I can hide it a little better based on the angle. But I basically could have passed for pregnant at my worst.
Makes me mad for ever letting it get so bad.

Someone posted a chart in the last BMI thread with pictures of different bf% men and women but I can’t find it

I’ve been 180 pounds before (close to top end of healthy for me) and I looked like I was on death’s door.

I'm 27 lbs over my weight, but I'm a stocky athletic build. It was always funny running 1st class pfts in the Marine Corps, to then get taped because I was over my max. Still always taped out.
Could I lose weight? Absolutely, not as mean as I used to be

I highly doubt that. Your perception is skewed. You’re a fat acceptor just like the woke magazine editors are whenever they place some obese model on the cover saying it’s beautiful and healthy.

You just think that because you're accustomed to seeing yourself larger.
I promise you the high end of the healthy range for your height does not look like death's door to any medical professional or even stranger. People who know you heavier of course will agree you looked too skinny.. that's what people do.

Believe what you will...some people are built like athletes with legs like tree trunks and some have tiny bodies with concave chests.

for guys, if you are above 20% your are overweight, 25% -30% borderline obese at best, 30% and you are obese. 35% extreme obese. 40%+ and you are morbidly obese.

Continue to be in denial. Even if this is true to an extent that it makes your BMI overweight, it doesn’t apply to everyone or even a massive number of people. You would be the exception not the rule. For most people, the middle BMI range is what they should aim to be.
Isn’t it weird that the South and the US is filled with all these exceptions to the BMI? All these muscle bound athletes with tree trunk legs living here I guess.

That calculator says I should weigh 180, I haven't weighed that since high school and I was skin and bones then. 225 is the ideal weight for my height and frame, 180 would look like a toothpick.
