I traded in a 2012 Tacoma with 270k miles on the Tundra. I’m 58 so it could very well be my last vehicle too.

Funny. I have owned many cars and trucks. I never, ever had that issue.

Toyota has always had issues, they did a better job of covering them up in the 1990's - 2000's.

Oh, I know. My 2018 Tacoma didn't make it past 40000 before it crapped out due to cam shaft issues. Tranny was crap too. Really wanted to be in the cult. It let me down.

The 5.7 is one of the best engines ever made.

I've got a 2013 Tundra with the 5.7 as well. As a builder I put ~80K hard early miles on it the first 4 years, 75% of that was towing a boat, 16 ft trailer, or bed load. Moved to the beach and last 8 years put another 120K on it and kept in uncovered driveway a half mile from the gulf. Had some rust issues and replaced running boards and sketchy front rocker arms after I failed to wash/rinse it properly after numerous beach dune excursions. Replaced the head unit (had reception issues) with a larger aftermarket screen with Airplay

Even in this rough environment, the engine and drive train have had no issues whatsoever and that's with my lazy arse treating it like the stepchild work truck it is by missing oil changes and general maintenance from time to time. I wanted to cry when they removed the V8 from the product line. 20+ MPG is irrelevant to me at this stage of life. I am 57 and well off enough financially that a big arse overpowered V8 about to hit 200K miles getting 16 MPG (10 MPG towing a 7000 lb boat at 75 mph) is more than fine.

GIve me a call in 5 years when the V6 turbo has more historical data, and I will consider parking the old one and dropping $70K in todays dollars for a new one. Meanwhile, I will continue to abuse this one.

On a side note, we have had five Ford Expeditions over the years and wife got a new '22 Limited XL when they came out. Has the V6 turbo and 10 speed transmission and have pulled the same 7K lb boat a few times. Was skeptical at first as mileage of course plummeted (from 22 MPG to 14 MPG) under what sounded like a straining engine. Just hit 80K miles on it and its been awesome so far (fingers crossed). Really impressed with how well fit and finish has held up.

The toyota bros told us these were nothing to worry about and everything had been fixed.

Not sold on turbo V6 for a full sized truck in general, but getting a new engine at no charge thru a recall is about the best definition of "getting fixed" I can think of.

Just called the dealership. My 2024 GX is going to be subject to the recall but as of now, there is no remedy. I will be ocntacted at a later date.

I was specifically advised upon purchase that this engine was not one of the ones that would be affected. Chaps my arse. Also chaps my arse because I really want to find another V8, but they are going to be scarce bc of the recall.
