Intent is an element of many crimes.. it really wouldn’t surprise me if a fact pattern showed up where you could be convicted in similar circumstances

He plead guilty, which makes me think he mistakenly thought it was actually cocaine (until lab results proved him wrong). Yes, it is possible he knew it was milk the whole time and plead guilty regardless, but that is a stretch in these specific facts. We aren't talking a coerced confession upon arrest, this is a guilty plea months later. I guess if he knew it was milk, and didn't say anything, we have a clear cut competency issue.
Side note, silly enough, he goes to prison in many state's for selling the powdered milk regardless if he knew it wasn't cocaine, if he sells the milk "as cocaine."

Considering how the cops and prosecutors go at people they absolutely are not. It's a guarantee he was told he could plead guilty and take 15 years or go to court and risk getting life.
It's fairly common for people who aren't well off, have a poor understanding of the legal system, and are scared as hell they could be locked up for life will take the deal even if they are innocent.

False confessions are a thing. People will confess to crimes that it would have been physically impossible for them to commit. Police interrogation techniques are finely honed and get results, sometimes from innocent people. Plenty of youtubes about this if you're curious.

While this is true, only a weak person would plead guilty to a crime they didn't really commit. I'm sure there are some extravagant examples where it's possibly better to just plead than to fight it. My morals, values, and general principles would never allow me to do such a thing.

I would guess he had no chance of posting bail and was told by a lawyer that taking a guilty plea would reduce his sentence and get him out of the system quicker. He wouldn’t be the first to get baited into innocently pleading guilty
If a homeless guy actually thought he came across 45 grams of cocaine and didn’t know better I would question his judgement on how to plead from the start

There was a cop in January that falsely tested a guys laundry detergent for heroin and gave the dude trafficking charges. When they found out the cop lied, he was fired and they found out 11 other people were in jail because of him. So fricked up
