Well... Assault (in LA Simple Assault) is a threat of physical violence coupled with the ability to carry out that threat. So, generally speaking, assault is committed verbally. The ability to carry out part is key though. If I call you on the phone and say "I am going to punch you in the face" it isn't Assault. I can't do it. If I confront you, hold my fist up and say "I am going to punch you in the face" then that is assault because I am capable of performing the act.
Aggravated Assault is a threat of violence with a weapon. For instance, I point a gun at you and say "I am going to kill you."

NO IDEA if this is true or not.
But the story I heard was that the dr was jogging, saw a fight and tried to break it up. I don’t know the guy, just have a relative that works in healthcare and that’s the story circulating as of now.
