is that exactly where the crash happened?

Nobody really knows at this point. It isn't like there are business or houses along the entire way to give an exact location, but my shot is about 2 miles from Hwy 11, the other is on the address given from another media outlet. Both are good indicators of what it is like though.

TONS of room

Those shoulders are full of shite. Dead snakes, dogs, critters, crabs, debris, and all kinds of shite.

Stuff like this is pretty common along there.

I've seen appliances, furniture, trash bags, crab traps, a motorcycle laying on it's side, torched stolen cars, etc.

Sometimes downtown I see bikes parked behind a car at a light that is at the bottom of a hill. Brakes go out or rear ends happen all the time among cars. You're dead if that happens on a bike.

I was about to laugh at you about hills downtown until I saw you we from Seattle.

Per wwltv:

Police said the driver of a Chevy Cruze was traveling in the right lane eastbound on Chef Highway when, for reasons unknown, he rear-ended the two cyclists who were also in that lane.

we pretty much knew that...was he ticketed or charged or is it still being investigated?

I get that. All I'm saying is that down here, the most outspoken advocates for cycling tend to be condescending assholes.

it is true 'cycling' is seen by some as an alternative to BIG OIL and fossil fuels & shite, but i would hardly characterize a group of triatheletes training & doing recon for an event that happens on that same road this coming sunday as being in that group.
I'm not criticizing either. I support all cyclists. I just think some of them are dicks.

No details yet, but we didn't know the accident happened in the lanes of travel, not on the shoulder.

You know how hard it is to NOT see three cyclists riding in the right lane of traffic.

There is no question the driver violated the state's 3 feet law here.

I put thousands of miles on my road bikes up until I was in my early thirties. I wouldn't even consider street riding with the age of the smart phone dominating peoples attention. Not that this is absolutely what caused the accident...but still.

Yes, because it is a road for cars. It's just dumb the way the out these bike lanes in tight spaces with high speed vehicles

Yes.

I use my bike for a mode of transportation all the time. But I would never ride down a lane of traffic on a hwy. I like to kayak but you will never catch me kayaking down the Mississippi at the port of New Orleans either.

fwiw i could make the same argument with motorcycles except they're traveling at HIGHWAY speeds and a little bump to the bumper and you're pretty much going to die.

cyclists rarely are going faster than 20mph and can hear cars easier than motorcylists since they don't have a full helmet covering their ears and an engine revved up that masks the sounds of cars.

far far more motorcylists killed by cars than cyclists. would you argue the road isn't for motorcyles either?

No offense, but I'm sure you know that's a terrible argument. Motorcycles can travel at the proper speed, have all indicators, and carry insurance.

Eta: And the overwhelming majority of motorcycle deaths are due to the rider doing something stupid coupled with not wearing proper safety gear. You're going to want to try a different argument.

Certainly true. However, as I have started riding Mir, it has given me some appreciation of where they are coming from. Too many people in louisiana are ignorant to riding laws and create a dangerous environment. Further, people harbor this attitude that bike riders are assholes just for riding in the street, when it is the law.

wait what?

so cars are more careful around motorcycles?

hey everybody, here comes lunchbox. 10 & 2 on the steering wheel until he passes.

a motorcyclist has no airbag and doesn't have 4 wheels and a metal cage around them to protect themselves from a distracted driver, road debris, etc.

terrible argument because a motorcylist is pretty much going down if he gets into a fender bender going at highway speeds and likely die.

Likely die? No. Exaggerate more though.

ETA: And as for you edit, even at high speeds you are unlikely to die unless you aren't wearing any gear. Unless you think everyone that crashes gets run over by a vehicle after.
