That’s a buttload of sleep. I’m not saying too much, because I don’t know if there’s such a thing for a small child, but it does seem beyond 10 hours that it wouldn’t be beneficial. I say “seems” because I don’t pretend to have researched it.
My daughter slept that long on the weekends when she was a toddler. She also didn't nap though. She stopped naps when she was around 2. She got that from me because I hate naps. There were a few Saturday mornings when she was a toddler where we'd have to wake her up around 10 or 11. That girl still loves to sleep late.

Wife gets sick of my shite after a couple of hours, too.

Upstairs by 9. Anything earlier sounds like a shitty way to treat them.

I might sound like an a-hole (surprise!) but if you need bedtime entertainment, read a fricking book.
my kids read a shite ton as they are in spark and go to a pretty demanding school. And we dont let them have a ton of time on the ipad/tv but at 10 and almost 9 and hell even the 5 year old....there is nothing wrong with enjoying a movie or playing a game etc.
not like they are doing it all day. They dont have phones and wont for a while and honestly the ipads are great for their learning. My freaking oldest drives me nuts with history nuggets he learns on his ipad.
and sometimes they need and deserve a break from reading and math facts shite.

Agree - but we usually try to tell her a bedtime so we don't have to negotiate when it's time.
yea i mean i usualyl tell them dont stay up too late. or i tell them that we are going to 8am mass and they know if they fall asleep or are cranky....Im going Red Foreman and putting foot to arse so they dont abuse it.
i have good kids and they tend to not push it too much, atleast the older 2. The youngest I have to be more strict on. Normally if i know he stayed up way too late, ill be an a-hole and wake him up early as hell and keep him up to make sure he learns a lesson.
In general though I let them regulate their time as in I tell them the deadline and let them handle it from there. They know if i come check and they are not following it, their will be consequences. I will go couple days only going in around 10 and then will pop in suddenly at 9 and they know if they are still playing...they lose the privilage for a while.
and I know i said pretty much no exceptions to the 845 rule...well that is assuming we do not have a game or practice that goes until that time.
also during summer, i dont worry about bed time and let it be like weekends are. Only exception is if they are bothering me and the wife from going to sleep.

young kids crave schedule and routine and require lots of sleep for brain development (our 2 year sleeps 13 hours every night and takes a 2.5 hour nap every day)
most people do not understand this and never learn how important it is.

Agreed. I've never been around any kids who didn't get enough sleep, regardless of bedtime.
There's a push to start school later because kids learn better if they start later. Going to bed early and getting up early isn't the normal state of being a kid.

6 year old - 9PM most nights
2 year old - usually out by 8:30
Bed time at the 7:30 range seems like a really tough task on a normal day. Getting to bed that early with getting home at 5:30, cook dinner, baths, etc seems pretty tight time wise and not much room for family time IMO, but hey, everyone has different work hours and schedules.

7 and 5. We are a 7:30 - 8 pm family. We try to start around 7:20 or so because by the time you do pajamas, brushing teeth, reading books, tucking in, it’s 8:00.
Reading, bath, books, etc. I was just told it's time for bed and got tucked in. No rituals.

I would say it is based on what time they wake. My kids have to wake up at 6am during the week so they go to bed bed at 7:30 (4 year old) and 8 (5 year old)

Sometimes in grade school id be up late having to do homework in 6 different subjects.
Never understood why every teacher found it necessary to give homework every damn day. A full day of school, and then have to go home and do more. Its like they were trying to make you resent them..luckily I found video games, music, porn, alcohol and drugs.

8 almost 9 son 830-9(reading) on weeknights. Gets up at 6:50. Has always gotten up great.
He stays up till 9 or 930 occasionally 10 on weekends and sleeps until about 7:30 or 8.
6 year old daughter 7:30-8:10 on weeknights. Just depends if she has soccer. Gets up at 7ish. A lot tougher to wake up usually than 1. She will stay up till about 8:30-9 on weekends amd sometimes sleep all the way until 9.
3 year old son. Becomes a giant a-hole anytime later than 7:30ish unless it’s summer and we’re sleeping. Wake up time anywhere between 6 and 8
This doesn’t really change on weekends unless they’re watching a movie.

You obviously were never a teacher or educator, its pretty easy to tell in school. When I coached a bit it was harder to tell as kids were generally hyped up for practice/games, but I had numerous kids who's performance improved when I knew there parents were making sure that got enough rest.
