Man I've heard a lot of dumb gun ideas in my life but the hidden unloaded revolver serving as a deterrent is up there.
How many times have you practiced the HK slap for an unexpected guest?

The HK is for show
The B&T is for dough
The B&T is for dough

They have an exterior door in their bedroom that is next to the bathroom that is only accessible by breaking though a fenced wall. Apparently the guy got dirty on his way in. They are heavy sleepers and didn’t wake up until the dog jumped on them

Pepperspray might be an option if they don't want a loaded gun easily accessible.

Teaching the kids not to frick around with granddad's gun is another.

You said he was washing "my" hands

Well they’re all 0-3. So it’s harder to know if the point to not play with papaws guns got across at those ages. Loaded or not

they've left the hotels off I-12/Sherwood and over on Airline Hwy remain drug fueled crime ridden properties for about a decade now which you had to imagine would spill over to those areas at some point
you would think the city would eventually do something about it but you can't even find law enforcement patrolling those areas

his pistol is locked up in the closet.

Get him a bedside quick access safe and a high capacity semi auto with a light and laser

And this is exactly what you have to do if you take a gun out in that situation or else you will be shot with your own gun. Very few people actually have the wherewithal to instantly kill someone even if they are inside of their house.
Justified or not, if you kill someone, your life will be ruined. At the very least, you’ll be spending a quarter of a million dollars on attorney’s fees to defend yourself in all of the lawsuits that will result. There is no easy answer…

The 8 minute Eddie Eagle gun safety video for kids is a good place to start.

No, they just know the DA and judges are feckless/complicit. It’s the entire US judicial system in a nutshell post-COVID
No one arrested for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, or even unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, is getting a bond set within an hour, much less make it and get released, in Baton Rouge. That’s a cop who didn’t feel like writing a report.

What is a “fenced wall”
Not to be rude, but your story telling abilities leave a lot to be desired.
I’m still trying to figure out why the burglar was washing your hands.

If he's broken into 3 OTHER houses, then this is at least the 4th. How is this guy not a 4 time felon serving life?

In Louisiana, breaking and entering (burglary) carries serious felony penalties, varying from
simple burglary (up to 12 years, $2k fine) to aggravated burglary (up to 30 years) if armed or someone is present,

Agreed, and that is itself reprehensible. That cop’s sole job is to uphold the law and he failed to do that…and it apparently, is a pattern.

Maybe that is true on some questionable shoot, where he's outside, or running away.
A dude inside of your house? Definitely not.
