Our CIO sent out an email yesterday to everyone at corporate (A little over 1,200 of us) saying that if things continue to trend in a negative direction that we will be asked to work from home until things settle down. They're upgrading those with a desktop to a laptop so they've got the flexibility to work remotely.
I'm able to do my job from the house regardless so it's not a huge deal, but my coworkers and I thought it was a nice gesture for them to even consider it for those who have to come in to get their work done.

Also a millennial, been strictly working from home for the last 4 years. Maybe OP shouldnt be such a shitty boss and hire employees he can trust to work without him watching over them.

I would give them 3 times the work that they were required to do in the office.

You're old and in the way.
WFH is very common these days and more economical.
Learn to like it.

don't think I would have survived the Ebola and West Nile outbreak if I didn't work from home during those times of crisis

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). Two little millineal bitches approached me today wanting to ‘work from home’ until all this blows over. I know ‘working from home’ to them means paid vacation.
Can they do their job effectively from home? My company is encouraging anyone with viral symptoms to self-quarantine if they're eligible to WFH.
They either can get their work done or they can't. If they don't then you have recourse for termination right? What's the problem?

We are basically being encouraged to work from home and I’m not a big enough pussy to do it. Will be playing in a poker tournament this weekend.

You didn’t have to- if they can work from home, why not let them? We don’t know jack about this infection, other than it’s very transmissible. Personally, risk aversion, positive self regard, and concern for more vulnerable workers (health wise) would make an extremely good impression on me. Of course, I’m smart enough to do what I can to avoid a novel virus with a high hospitalization/death rate.
Goddamn you are a pussy. They obviously are just trying to get out of work dipshit

Serious global pandemic with only 90k cases and the origin point is already seeing less new cases than cures. Yeah real fricking serious. Grow some balls dude.

No (not that that’s an insult because pussy is awesome). I’m a professional who cares about myself, my workers, and my clients. I also read the news and understand math. There’s nothing pussy about agreeing to an arrangement that I would arrive at on my own (because it’s logical). China didn’t shut down a city the size of NYC for a flu, “dip shite.” Sorry you have to be present to move things around the stockroom (or whatever it is you do). My workers don’t have to choose between their job and their health.

Tell me about how reliable communist numbers are. Now, tell me about the reliable and extensive testing carried out by the CDC.
Many people have died an early death “having balls.” I’ll stick to brains.

I can’t believe working from home still has a stigma attached to it. Why even bother hiring someone you can’t trust to do their job when you’re not looking?
How do you even do your job if you’re constantly having to babysit people you don’t trust? Sounds really efficient.
Managers that don’t trust the people that work for them are miserable. Working at your company sounds like a blast
