I have priority boarding so never have to gate check.
I’m not a fat arse so can’t fit everything in a backpack. In addition to work clothes, I need workout/running clothes, shoes, etc.
Wheeler carry on, backpack for laptop and accessories. Let’s go!

I fanny pack it everywhere when I travel. I probably look like a fig but who cares. It's so freeing to just cruise around the airport hands free and unburdened.

Tumi backpack (small), same deal.

I have three ways of packing.
For really short trips like 3 days or less I only carry a regular travel backpack. For trips up to a week I carry a larger travel backpack that can be made to fit as a personal item instead of a carry on. I can fit a weeks worth of clothes and a second pair of shoes.
Then if it's a longer trip or I need a suit and multiple shoes I'll bring my roll on.
If I buy a lot of souvineers I'll go buy a check bag sized bag and use that. I did that in Paris in New York to only pay bag fees one way.
So yeah I don't get why people pack so much.

Costs a lot to check bags, then they treat your bags like shite and lose them half the time. Most people would rather just carry everything on and not worry about it

Slapstick. Done though, may have to buy the $9 WiFi on the connecting flight.

A few points on both sides, to be fair:
- most airlines still charge $45 to check a bag unless you have preferred status
- checked bags get lost, especially with connecting flights
- 30% of people that bring a rolling bag onto a flight try to roll it down the aisles and hit every person and seat on their way (can we talk about fats btw?)

If it's a quick trip, I'm not checking a bag, so I'd be one those people you're talking about. If I need to pack more stuff, I'll check my bag and walk on the plane with nothing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The baggage fees should be for carry-on bags that need to go in the overhead bin they never have enough space for. Checking a bag should be free, so as to encourage more people to check.
People carry all that shite on because they want to avoid paying fees, but all it does it clog the cabin and make shite take 10x longer.
You ever see a family with a bunch of kids and every single person with them has their own bag on wheels? Brutal. Encourage those people to check that shite and fly emptyhanded.

The whole jet bridge is filled with people who need to claim their roll on…that looks like a terrible process…and probably twice in a day. Ugh.

I don't want to spend the extra 30+ minutes up front and an unknown (baggage handlers at Airport X on strike today?) amount of time after I arrive before I can be on my way? frick all that.
Usually, the only time I check a bag is if I'm traveling internationally. And absolutely not on a connecting US flight.
Agreed. I may check luggage on a direct flight, but I'm not risking my luggage getting lost in connecting flights, delays, etc...
I can pack a weeks worth of clothing in my carry-on

Also the 3rd bag for a lot of these guys that looks like a laptop bag is actually a cpap. Roller bag/backpack/ and a cpap bag because medical equipment doesn't count.

It does sometimes intrude on other travelers when too many people carry on multiple bags then some people can't even put their one carryon bag in the overhead bin.

This year I have been to the following places for personal travel.
Cuba - Mexico - Hawaii - Colombia - Peru - Key West - DC - Iowa - France
I took too much to every place except Florida.

This started becoming a thing when airlines started charging fees to check bags.
I get free bag check through being a Delta Medallion flyer and I still rather carry on.

The planes I generally take, small airport > hub > small airport, just simply can’t fit a roller in the overhead at all. Everyone plane checks on the jet bridge.
Doesn’t really take more time for me…I just see them held up after.
I didn’t have room for bag this time anyway. I check in late and get boarding group 8…
Another pet peeve…who the frick needs a snack and drink on these ~hr flights? WTF? No I don’t want a snack and drink. I don’t eat in a car, surely not going to eat on a plane (unless I’m flying over a big body of water).
