35 minutes from downtown is pretty much anywhere in BR, and some suburbs. The city isn’t that big.

Depending on your budget get something in BR, you don’t want to live in the sticks and travel back and forth to go out

make sure to buy anywhere north of government street

You joke but there are definitely areas immediately north of government st that I would jump on right now that aren’t as pricey as those to the the south (Capital Heights, Old Goodwood, Garden District) but will be in the next 5-10 years

Now if you said north of Florida....

St. Francisville is a great little town but it is a hike to BR if you work there. People who live there will act like it is right next to BR.

Searching for a house there isn't easy either. Very low inventory and random homes spread out all over. The home you like may be on the north side way off 61 which means the commute would be hell.

Seriously.

Goodwood, Capital Heights, Tara, Jefferson, etc. Why would you want to live in Prarieville over those areas if you don’t need public schools?

I’m assuming the OP is aware of the traffic nightmare that is every damn city in Louisiana. That’s edpecially bad if you depend on major highways in Baton Rouge.

frick commuting. Live in one of the nicer older areas in mid city.

When I worked at the bars in downtown Baton Rouge I used to drive from the highland exit to third street in about 25 minutes. Your prospective living area is huge.

35 mins without traffic and preferably 45 to an hour at most with traffic on a bad day.

That opens you up quite a bit. I live off Millerville and you pretty much described my drive times.

What's your price range?

With that timeframe I would look around College Drive. Near I-10.

Agree with this. No kids so no schools to worry about. Negotiate some fixer upper in Tara down to $230-250,000 put 60-80,000 cash into it and sell it in 3-4 years for $420,000+.

Or low ball the crap out of someone in Broadmoor, $125-170,000 for some mid-century, fix it up and sell it for $250-300,000 down the road or rent it for $1800 month.

Walker is the worst of the LP areas.

I work in LP and live in BR, I have no issues at all (20-30 minutes between each trip) But I’ve see the reverse way of me every day and I can’t imagine living in that hell

Riverbend subdivision off of Brightside. Many LSU and Downtown workers live there. Easy commute into Downtown via River Road

Zachary or Central seems like the winners here.

They'd be easiest to the downtown area. I'm from Central actually. A lot of the town flooded in 16 that never had previously. Most of it should be rebuilt by now though.

Either would be a decent place to live if you prefer the more laid back suburb lifestyle. The Settlement at Shoe Creek is a big mixed use development that just broke ground. I'm pretty sure that area didn't flood.

I’m pretty sure central & Zachary would have everything we would need. We’d only need to go to br for work, LSU games and rare occasion shopping. Hopefully top golf too once that’s done.

Neither have a ton to do but they both have some restaurants, bars, grocery stores etc. Zachary is maybe 10-15 minutes further out.

Plenty of baws in both places, low crime, some of the better public schools in LA.

If you prefer a smaller suburb type lifestyle than they are fine.

Y’all must be homebody types or one of you doesn’t drink? I don’t know why anyone would want to live in a suburb when they don’t have kids.
