Anyone who watches the news will have a distorted view. It’s conditioning and thought programming.
The goal of anyone should be independent free thinker. Partisanship is the bane of society.

If only there was a political board...

It's not exclusive to either, technically, agreed. But there is one particular side that much more than the other has propensity to throw awkward fits and brainstorm in order to think of a complaint or protest. You know which it is.
Actually, I don't. I've seen both do it with regularity the last few years. And it keeps getting worse.
It's pretty simple, nobody wants to discuss that shite at the holidays. People want to eat, drink, watch some football, and enjoy the company of family and friends. When I have family members that get started, I just walk out of the room.

My sister is an ultra conservative right wing nut. Which is fine.
But she’s raised her kids in such a sheltered bubble it makes even watching movies or even cable TV impossible. During Thanksgiving my 11 year old nephew ran into the next room telling her they were cussing on TV. It was bleeped out.
Of course any alcohol and even secular music is a big deal.

They can mix if you have people who are respectful of others who have differing opinions.
Discussing topics with widely varying positions generally works best one on one or in very small groups.

Everybody recognizes that Trump is a bit of an idiot and a jerk but the alternative isn’t something we support. I’ve never heard anything unkind or argumentative brought up during holidays.
This is how most of my family sees it and I had the same older sister except she was a Jesse Jackson supporter. That went over like a turd in a punch bowl but we enjoyed the discussions.
You have to be a good sport about it. And wine. You have to have lots and lots of wine.

No ma'am, I was referring to the broader concept of what type of personalities make up both groups. So if you have two individuals about to commence a political conversation, each having above average level of interest in politics, the one from the left will most likely start to get out of hand.
See most every protest occuring in American cities as support for this. Dont see many conservatives shutting down entire downtowns, physically and verbally abusing those who they disagree with, etc. Again, throwing fits.
FWIW I certainly agree with your second paragraph there. Mine is merely an observation of the times....but I also avoid political convo at family events. Prefer all the things you listed.

Republicans are more likely to setup shop with long-range rifles and protect someone out in the middle of bumfrick Montana illegally grazing their cattle on federal lands and threaten the lives of park rangers all from 250+ yards out

Are you saying she is super liberal because she doesn’t like Trump?
Cause you can not have super liberal views and still not like Trump fwiw.

I have a brother in law who suddenly became ultra conservative when Obama was president. But he isn't just a regular conservative type, he is also the tin foil hat type who also became really religious).
All of a sudden he started talking about how people should and shouldn't live and when we had our family Christmas he was going on and on.. Everyone was just trying to tune him out, but he just kept saying shite as if he thought everyone was in agreement with him.
He started with the religion thing about how if we are not saved we need to do so before its too late and I lost it. I was like "What? So you are saying if there is heaven and hell.. The only way people are getting into heaven is if they get saved?" And I started asking him "So what if a toddler dies an unfortunate death and he/she isn't saved? What about people who have been taught different all of their life? Is god going to punish them for believing the only thing they know?"
And he was like "there is no if about it. there is heaven and hell and Jesus gives us all a choice before we die. It will come in different forms, but if you don't accept it and don't get saved then you will go to heaven".
Then I started asking him shite that he would answer.. But it was just some bullshite like "the bible says blah blah blah" and it didn't actually answer what I was asking and I kept telling him "but I asked ___________________________. That shouldn't be hard to answer" and then it got even more heated and then someone told us to shut up and he stormed out of the house.. After that, he never went on another rant around me again. Which is good, because you don't start talking about that at holiday parties. No one wants to hear that shite.

I really don’t understand how someone can be so far one sided either left or right. Then they treat their politicians like celebrities and think they can do no wrong.

It doesn't work that way on this board. If you even question Trump you are "a stupid libtard" or "snowflake" or whatever.
That isn't my view... That's just how it is on here.
