Corn is a vegetable and choc milk has calcium so it’s a healthy lunch
Also corn is more carbs/starch than fiber...pairing that with pizza and chocolate milk is just a giant carb bomb

Graduated high school in 1997 in Acadia Parish.
If you got there early enough for the breakfast you could get OJ or apple juice, but the bags were smaller.
Red Velvet cake with pecans was the best thing ever, or our cinnamon rolls.

This has to be a south Louisiana thing or something. I remember them and every time I talk about it no one outside of Louisiana has any clue what I'm talking about, regardless of age.
Nah, we had them in NC in the 90s

That Rectangle Pizza was the best. Better than anything I can buy today.

School Lunch Pizza (gannie)
half sheet pan and line with parchment paper
CRUST:
2 2/3 (cups) flour
3/4 cup powdered milk
2 T Sugar
1 pkt of quick rise yeast
1 tsp salt
1 2/3 C warm water (105-100 degrees)
2 T Veg Oil
FILLING:
1/2 lb Italian Sausage
1/2 lb ground chuck
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1 8oz block Mozarella cheese, grated yourself
(I make the sauce the day before)
SAUCE:
6 oz can tomato paste
1 1/2 C water
1/3 Olive oil
2 cloves garlic minced
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1/2 Tbsp dried oregano
1/2 Tbsp drived basil
1/2 tsp dried rosemary, crushed
CRUST:
1) Preheat oven to 475 degrees (F) - spray pan with Pam (non-stick cooking spray) + lay parchment paper down - (Pam makes it stick)
2) In a large bowl - flour, pow milk, sugar, yeast, salt - whisk to blend
3) Add oil to hot water (110-115 degrees F) - pour into flour mixture
4) Stir with a wooden spoon until batter forms - don't worry about lumps - you just want no dry spots
5) Spread dough onto pan using fingertips till it's even. If dough doesn't want to coopreate let it rest 5 min & try again. Bake just crust 8-10 min - remove from oven & set aside.
6) Brown meats until it resembles crumbles - set aside & drain meat also
7) got out pizza sauce -
to partially baked crust assemble
1) sauce - spread all over crust
2) sprinkle meats
3) sprinkle cheese
4) bake at 475 degrees (F) 8-10 min until cheese melts & begins to brown
5) remove from oven, let stand 5 min, cut in slides & serve

Had them in St Landry parish.
A grain of rice fit nicely into the yellow straw and when you hit the bag that rice absolutely flew across the cafeteria

I remember the pouches. GOAT chocolate milk.
One time, a buddy in high school snuck a chocolate milk pouch out to recess. There, for no reason whatsoever, he decided to hummm the bag at a fellow classmate. it exploded all over his uniform. Was the funniest shite. We all fell out. Poor bastard didn’t get to change either.
Except, you know, it was totally senseless. I still have no idea why he did that. This didn’t seem to bother anyone. Just another day at a Catholic league school.

I’m lactose intolerant, so when I would drink my pouch milk I would end up farting in class all afternoon.

Yep. Floppy bags of homo milk

If you squeezed the edges and punctured the straw without your finger on the top, you could almost hit the cafeteria ceiling with milk.

Our school pizzas in north Alabama had Italian sausage (or something similar) on them. Lunch was $1 and for an extra quarter you’d get an extra pizza. Those things were freaking awesome.

Yep. I remember you had to cover the top of straw with your thumb when you put in the straw or the milk would shoot out everywhere

Oh I know it was an unhealthy lunch. I’m just giving you the 1980s justification. When we thought only fat was bad but sugar was ok.

Here is a video of making school lunch pizza - ~ 8 seconds in there is a shot of a tray with the pizza, corn, fruit cup, cookie, and chocolate milk.
Apparently, that combo was ubiquitous.
Edit - Only had milk cartons growing up as I moved through 3 states (LA, TX, CA).
