So the pumps do not have back up generators?

The turbines that are broken or out of service ARE the backup power source. But only 1 of 5 of those turbines is operational right now, so they can't generate enough power to run the pumps if they have any outage from Entergy.

At least thats what I got from listening to WWL this morning

I love these threads - "hey I live in Walker in a neighborhood where all the houses look the same. Nola is such a shite hole since Mitch took down those statues, MAGA! Now let me go home to my fat wife!"

And the audacity for any of you to talk about a flooded city. Atleast the people of New Orleans are smart enough to purchase flood insurance. Unlike 80% of LP and AP last year, god damn charity cases.

Hope everyone is aware since Katrina, FEMA added verbage to the flood policies that reads "flooding due to rising water unless caused by a pandering pussy arse incompetent mayor".

When does Former Gov. Kathleen Blanco step in front of the bank of microphones and call for a day of prayer?

not sure what I have more contempt for...that shithole of a city, or the people who blindly act like it's the greatest place in the world

So in other words... we should be fine. All we have to do is put our faith in Entergy to not have a power outage.

Crap.

The only reason more people in NO had flood insurance is because they're forced to if they have a mortgage due to the flood zones. Now that Orleans got new flood maps last year and a lot of people were no longer required to carry flood insurance for their mortgages, lets see how many still have it.

I'd have to imagine that flood insurance is going to increase a good bit now that all the frickery going on with the S&WB came out. And I'd be absolutely shocked if NOLA managed to fix a significant portion of the turbine, pump, and catch basin issues before next hurricane season.

It won't. It took FEMA a few years to re-do the Orleans flood maps that went into effect last year. They aren't redoing those maps again anytime soon.

60% of New Orleans doesnt have flood insurance-with the majority of houses being required to by mortgage holders

Two things that punch some holes in your little settle-down-Francis routine.

#1 - FEMA requires ANYONE who takes any cash from them in exchange for monetary assistance to insure their home with an NFIP/WYO Policy in perpetuity. Which means that since 2006, anyone who got any dime of money from NOLA wasn't, "smarter," than anyone else in any other subsequent disasters. It means they had no choice if they wanted to continue to live there.

If they had insurance before-in which case the argument you made about them being, "smarter," would hold water-then they would've been made whole by the NFIP policy for either structure or structure/contents. Instead, staggering sums were spent on Road Home and there were very Duplication's of Benefits backed out from those rounded off $150,000 amounts.

#2 - There are less than 1,400 Mobile Home Units left in LP as of this morning. Sounds like a lot, right?

Now stop and think that last week the THIRD person was interviewed by the local media that had been either repaid or had their home repaired by the Money that was allocated to repay homeowners for repairs already made and/or pay to have their homes restored.

Which means that even though 80% of the structures in places like LP/AP/EBR were damaged, and even though only a dozen-AT BEST-homeowners have been repaid for their repairs or had their homes rebuilt using recovery dollars, LP/AP/EBR are already dwindling down the number of mobile home units/temporary housing that NOLA still had people living in for YEARS after.

What does this tell you? That these areas of the state are far, far less reliant on big-brother, entitlement-fueled, handout-based governmental assistance and are pulling themselves out of the same situation Katrina folks languished in for years.

So kindly take your rant that flies in the face of objective reasoning, logic and facts in general and GTFO the thread. If you're going to bitch, at least know WTF you're talking about and have some facts to back it up.

This should make you feel better. WWL mentioned it this morning...a bid that was put out in 2011 for work to be done on the pumping station power plant. LINK

Basically says that they experienced 600 power outages from Entergy over 6 years.
