That's not completely accurate. It was argued that a President shouldn't fill the seat in an election year when the opposing party controls the Senate. Obama's party did not control the Senate. Trump's party does control the Senate.

Poli Board has some really bad apples but it’s not everybody.
Replacing RBG before the election, even if they could do it, would be a bad look and dumb strategically as it would motivate dem’s more than r’s to get to the polls.
Doing a lame duck appointment if they lose either the WH or the Senate would be an even worse look. Which, if they don’t care about that, is fine I guess. Just don’t complain about Dems doing shady shite.

I disagree (just my opinion). And technically, Trump isn't really a lame duck. He could be reelected.
