Imagine working for a company that task you with taking risk of death or injury at times.
Imagine working for a company that in the Summer of '16 witnessed first hand large groups of hostile people bussed into town, some of which that were armed with weapons, with the specific purpose of disrupting company operations and attempting to over throw its employees and the physical buildings they occupy by entering the property without authorization.
Imagine working for a company that witnessed first hand several of its employees and sister company employees ambushed and assassinated less than a mile from company headquarters by a hostile lone wolf.
Imagine working for a company that is universally considered critical infrastructure by the industry it falls under.
Now imagine, in 2020 after all of these events, that company management has not taken one single initiative to target harden this facility to protect its employees. No reinforced fencing, no controlled entry points, no on site dedicated security, nothing preventing future attacks or anything to provide its employees with the most basic levels of site security.
Can you see it yet? It's located at 9000 Airline Highway. The company is the City of Baton Rouge and the Department is Baton Rouge Police.
Good men gave their lives and they spent disposable budgets on kickball, snowballs, and community outreach handouts.
Build the wall Baton Rouge. You owe it to the men and women you ask to sacrifice everything.

The officers I know at BRPD are on so many anti depressants they are like walking zombies. There is not much you can do to them that they feel or care about.

So every one of these Officers offered up this level of personal information leading to your skilled assessment regarding deduction and conclusion? GTFOOH

Never had a good opinion of the BRPD, seems like they were more interested in traffic patrol and underage drinking than going after real criminals.

The starting salary is $33,000 for an officer, which means the BRPD is already pretty damn well defunded. They aren't paying out the $3,000,000 a year in salaries they are allotted for, not to mention health insurance and other expenses.
And yet, they bought themselves a fricking tank.
Blow me with the pay rate sob story.

Just wait. There are more retirements and resignations coming.
In most places LEO's are immune to being sued, personally, by law. Pelosi is pushing to do way with laws that prevent this.
You think they are aboot to quit now? Wait until they are in the position where one activist judge can cost them 20 years wages with one slam of a gavel.

And a helicopter too! I’ve only seen in fly around during LSU games and random days around the LSU lakes too. At $10k a pop for each flight, that’s an expensive way to check out the hot joggers around getting in an afternoon run.

I hope anyone that is for abolishing police departments runs into a violent situation where they desperately need the police.

They didn’t buy it. The Federal Government gave them a grant for it.

The “starting pay” argument is so damned dumb. Their total comp with benefits and overtime would make the average person blush.

I live in St George. I rely on the EBRPSO . If Baton Rouge wants to defund, unfund or just start transferring tax revenues directly to the bloods and crips, I don’t give a frick. I’m done with trying to talk sense to black racist idiots. I’m out.

And for anyone who wants to play, download this data set and sort by department:
LINK
BRPD has 39 people on payroll whose total pay (not counting benefits) is six figures. 163 people whose total pay (not counting benefits) is over $75k. 357 people over $60k. 668 over $50k.
In 2019, the highest paid employee of BRPD had a "salary" of $64,385.97. His total pay for that year, again, not counting benefits, was $176,141.70.
ETA: The difference between "base pay" and "gross pay" for BRPD as a whole in 2019 was $10,948,154.73.
Eleven. Million. Dollars.

New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans exist.

BR has been slowly defunding BRPD for years in favor of bike paths, parks downtown, social programs, and special deals.

If St George didn’t do BR in, then defunding the police departments most certainly will. That should about do it for BR.

Until St George is approved by the courts your tax dollars are going into BR to help pay their bills including expenses of BRPD so you like the rest of us have a reason to want those tax dollars going to the right things.
