Congrats on your retirement. I also worked 41 years for the same company, and left at 62. My dad died at 62, my mom at 64. I felt genetics weren't on my side, so I wanted to enjoy some easy living in the golden yeas.

Congrats, but also sorry for your loss. I'm hoping to retire later this year, but not certain yet. Life is too short to waste all of it at work.

Quite literally….a week after I retired, my blood pressure had dropped a full 10 points. It is a damn shame you have to ruin you health to make a living,,,

CONGRATS......I have thirty years in my job and I am just waiting for someone to piss me off so I can leave. I am just going to see how long I can clock watch and do bare minimum. I will not make forty years here. Thirty is enough.
Enjoy your retirement.
Enjoy your retirement.

Grats, man.
I'll be able to fully retire in 3 years at the age of 56.

That says a lot about your character that you remained at the same job for so long.
Actually it doesnt. Changing jobs actually promotes wage growth and opportunity for those that do it, staying with one company for so long costs you in long run and shows loyalty for no good reason.

Epic accomplishment. I got shite canned at 29 years and one day. A frenemie became my boss. That was 10 yrs ago. Landed a much better job but it still pisses me off. It says something to persevere at one place that long!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations!!

I can't lie, I shed a tear when I got into my truck and drove off for the last time.
That is an emotional time for sure. However, I knew this going in and planned it so I would be there alone when I walked out the last time.
I have lunch once every month or so with the guys from my work group…

Congratulations, very deserving. So sorry to hear about your wife. Stay busy.
I’m the busiest retired guy most folks know.
Stay busy my friend. I’ve help with Habitat for Humanity, in the construction of homes. I’ve open and closed shelters for the Red Cross. I’ve worked in the Food Bank. I also coordinate 4 charity golf tournaments.
If you need something to do, let me know.
Once again, enjoy life.

People get mad at others that don’t live a life of debt so they can impress their neighbors with material possessions they can’t afford.

I am a retirement rookie. Approaching 1 month into it. Have been given advice…
- Exercise
- Learn how to say no
- Travel
- Stay busy
- Retire TO something
Here is my view on these so far:
- Always have / will
- No problem
- No way. Most continents while working each year. I’ll pass
- No way. Detox from busy addition far better path for me.
- Don’t underestimate the value from retiring FROM something. All the weight lifted from that thing is worth weight in gold.
So far so good, anyways. Retirement is incredible!
Advice to those early in career:
- Live below means
- Invest difference / compounding interest
- Set aggressive financial goal so you can own your time asap in life. Whether you choose option, option still yours.
- “I want my money earning more money than I do be age 40”
Do it!
