There are a number of posters on the PT board who have decided to take the absolute worst attributes of Reddit, Democratic Underground, Twitter, etc, and employ all those attributes... but just in a far-right-leaning way.
I really wish I could meet some IRL to see if they are legit this insane, or it's just a role they play online.

They don't censor much so it ends up being very right wing and conspiratorial. When all ideas are allowed that will win out because that's the truth of the world. It's happened before on message boards. All the most extremists and normal people debating. That's what happens. That's why every mainstream website has to deal in heavy censorship. I'm not sure how anyone still goes "hurr sure conspiracy tinfoil hat" after COVID but people are very dumb.

You have a very different memory of the PT board 10 years ago. It's not very interesting to debate with people who think Mitt Romney should be president. It's unfortunately gone to lunacy now but I think it was most interesting during the Trump candidacy up until COVID, if you overlook the Q loons, at least. It was then that people were most open to ideas that weren't the same ones on their TVs.

You might want to reaccess where you are placing the center pin.
One of the issues with people on both sides is they have the need to pull the center right up next to their ideas. The Poli board now has Reagan well left of their current "center" as an example. It is a natural thing to do as no one wants to think of their ideas as radically far from the center but it is easy for it to happen in an echo chamber like the Poli board or DU.

And there are people on the O-T who actually believe what's on television. That is even more crazy. When you know for a fact they are lying about everything, you question everything and entertain alternative theories. I made a thread is Putin the secret grandson of Rasputin? It's a joke, but you can look at the thread and enjoy it. It's not real but it still makes more sense than the absolute retarded garbage on the news. And then you see how easily the news convinces people.

the big difference is the OT never latched onto the Q stuff like the poli board did. both boards match on a lot of things, but there is more of a left presence so the threads at least usually have some level of back and forth

TexAgs is the same way. the poliboard there thinks everybody else is far left when the majority of the boards are all very right leaning.
they have way stronger moderation there and a profanity filter so it comes off a bit less strong.
