Can you name any transportation occupations that have seen an increase in pay over the last 30 years (adjusted for inflation)? Truck drivers down. Airline pilots down. Rail crew down. LA river pilots way up. I believe the pilots navigate and never control the ship. GPS maybe?

Is anyone stupid enough not to see what’s going on here ??

Paid shills posting this silly arse crap about a wholly corrupt extortion racket.

Pilots and their racket are scum. How this middle age scam continues to exist amazes me.

Boudreaux and thibodeaux both graduate pilot school. Boudreauxs dad is a pilot. Thibodeauxs dad is not. Thibodeaux is valedictorian.

Who gets the job? Boudreaux.

Enough said.

From the pilots I know it is definitely like this.

I’m not saying it’s not what they are doing, I’m saying it’s very different from someone buying into a law firm or medical practice.

Most of them also have drivers through a company to take them too and from ships and terminals. Most of these drivers are tipped by the pilots so that’s where the extra roughly 40,000 comes into play as a transportation fee not including the miles on their trucks and their own gas. So yes they get paid extremely well, but they also have a job that can be dangerous at times and could destroy Louisiana’s ecosystem and potentially shut down the river which would have a significant impact on Louisiana’s economy.

Wait a minute...

Are you trying to say everybody should be compensated for leaving tips?

ETA: I'm going to have fun with this OP.

Let me continue reading.

In order to be a pilot, the first step one could take is to attended an maritime academy.

So I have multiple friends that went to these academies and they wouldn’t have a shot a being a Pilot because they aren’t “connected”
Then you go on to talk about risk, what’s the difference between a tanker leaking and a couple hundred thousand tonnes of chlorine or methyl ethel death being spilled from a plant on the river due to bad operator practices. The fact of the matter is this is racket, if they would let the best men get the job and have a competitive market we’d have better pilots for lower wages. The only pilot I know was the son of a congressman along with being the nephew of a CEO of a big offshore company...all the other guys who came from nothing and studied as hard didn’t have a shot.

Guy, I see where you’re coming from but this was a swing and a miss. Ain’t no way in hell are you going to justify $650k salary to drive boats - no matter how big.

I love how every post slightly critical of this cabal has an immediate downvote. The pilots association either has tenacious OT followers or word got out about the other post critical of their $700,000/year demand and they hired someone to defend them.

They really are.

I just hope they aren’t doing it while they are protecting Louisiana’s ecosystem and helping Louisiana’s economy thrive by limiting the number of qualified applicants and artificially driving up shipping prices.

Well when you have a $700k racket going on you’d hope they’d protect it with downvotes, not a program where the best man gets the job.

Of course the guilds have lobbyists. They must protect their gravy train. God forbid they actually have to compete for these positions with the plebians moving forward.

Who’s the downvote Nazi, why don’t you chime in on why you protect the racket? I’ve seen environmental hazard and said there is the same risk at plants, I’ve heard the river conditions argument but said that there could be better men for the job (unless you don’t like competition), so what leg will you stand on?
Ps I’m sure this will get a downvote after posted
Edit: 2 downvotes with no argument, the questions are still posted with no answers, simply a push of a down arrow for a response, almost like it was just as easy to downvote as it was to get your daddy’s job
Edit 2: 4 dv’s and still no answer, I get it though, no voice and all voting power, that’s how you make a salary of $300k more than the president of the US

Wait a damn minute ,,, plebians can’t be pilots? How is this allowed after SCOTUS outlawed discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation?

This, combined with the very few people good enough at it to get the job, allows me to understand the compensation.

Anybody who deals with any kind of chemical plant operation deals with that kind of shite. Anybody who deals with the navy deals with that shite. Anybody who does a job deals with difficult things.

River pilots make themselves very easy to dislike. They have the best thing going that any person could hope for. Best thing they could do would be to shut up and enjoy it.
