What did you do?
May or may not have gotten the car out their lot without their knowledge or permission.
May or may not have had the cops speak to us at 4am.
May or may not have feigned ignorance.

Knoxville has a similar company that does the exact same shite. I graduated 10 years ago and still despise those people - shady as hell and would pull all sorts of dirty tricks.
I know exactly what you’re talking about - Volunteer Towing. I had to step into the Walgreens on the strip to get a prescription filled and parked in the lot - 5 minutes max. I come back out and they’re in the process of backing up the truck.
I went nuclear on the guy and he was unfazed. Ended up having to pay $75 in order to get him to move his truck. I really wanted to fight that motherfricker right then and there then Molotov cocktail that fricking truck.
Towing companies are lower than scum.

I made it through 5 years of undergrad and 3 years of law school without getting towed, but they got me tonight. I thought the space I was in at a friend’s apt complex was a visitor spot, but when I returned my car was gone. They towed it at some point between midnight and 2:00am. It will now cost me at least $250 to get it back. The lot was damn near empty and I was parked way in the back. Should I make it my life’s mission to rid BR of this vile institution once and for all?

Those are the guys.
I also remember when they tried to tow someone out of the Renaissance Apts in the Fort that a legit riot started. Close to 100 people surrounded the tow truck and car and were yelling at this dude, throwing beer, etc. Guy ended up just high tailing it out of there.
I hope the Fort is still as rowdy as it was when I was there (class of 09)

Just another corrupt system of criminal scumbags.

The Venue at the north gates, definitely contracts with these garbage arse people. I saw Riverside going from car to car with flashlights looking for stickers. I hope someone burns that Riverside office down to the ground.

~25% annual turnover among undergrads makes for very little institutional memory. Every year there's a new crop of freshmen who have to learn the same lessons over again. Add family, friends, and casual visitors and there's always plenty of prey for the vultures.
And, while there are a lot of drivers who get towed due to poor signage or shady towing practices, there are also a lot who knew what they were doing, took the risk and got caught. The tow truck operators do provide a necessary service, egregious and extortionistic as their business practices may be. If not for the threat of towing violators, drivers with a legitimate reason for being there wouldn't be able to park on and near campus.

We had a similar thing. I got in my truck had it started and was about to go through the gate and some random drunk I let get in my cab stood in the way. I didn't want to hit him. I got dragged out my own truck that night.

But it was just easier to pay the shite heads at Riverside and be done with it.

I’m of the opinion that carefully disseminated information is the best route. Put the right seeds in the right ground and let them grow on their own.
For instance...did you know that Riverside keeps tens of thousands of dollars in cash in a simple lockbox regularly. And their safe is lightly guarded, with them moving large amounts of cash on Thursday nights about 11 pm.
Also their drivers regularly carry thousands in cash from people they extort. Their spotters are usually unarmed and carry copious amounts of cash from shaking down people they pull their parking scam on.
Also...a heavy cash business with strange hours and shady accounting practices? The scuttlebutt is that they are running Heroin out of their lots. Using trucks and towed cars to transport it.
It would be a shame if some junkies got wind of this and decided to make a big score.
Or if businesses found out they were facilitating racist heroin pushers...right?

I am unsure, but believe I read specifically in this thread, that they target black folks specifically. I think someone said their drivers and a crusty old battle-axe in the office are quite fond of using the N-word.
I am unsure if any of this is true. Can anyone expound?

What do you mean? Riverside is known to prey upon the poor black folks on the streets named after states.
Their managers and owners actively encourage these people be towed first. Also, a lot of their drivers and spotters have swastika tattoos. They hire LITERAL NAZIS.
Someone should probably let the local SJWs know.
