Why were the victors so slow on the uptake in this instance? Thing was erected 20 years after the victory and has been standing for 130+ since.
Weird.

Didn't the 5th Circuit rule on the legality of this?
From what I recall regarding the statues had nothing to do with whether or not it was censorship, but in regards to whose property it was. Even that's in dispute, especially regarding PGB.

We must destroy this city in order to save it.

Just got my first good look at what they want to do. Looks like they are going to try and use wood mats to support the crane- without outriggers- onto the probably very crappy soil next to REL.
That's assuming of course someone can get to the top of the statue to rig it.
ETA: wood mats, not plywood

They are trying to level out the pad that the crane is going to sit on. They are doing a piss poor job of it though.

I would assume they are trying to cut back the slope so they can get the crane up close to the monument to allow for an easier lift. If they don't get close they need a bigger crane and have to take down the street car cables. If they don't get it with the equipment they have now, it's back to square one and ole Mitch will have some egg on his face.

That thing's gonna tip over, kill somebody in the process.
