I used to be pro legalization and I guess I am, but I don't like how in states where it's legal people just smoke it on the street.

Make it legal to buy, use, but illegal to use in public.

That's the law in most, if not all of these states.

Also imagine smoking flower in public when you can just dab.

Did laws ever stop high school aged kids from drinking beer/alcohol at parties?

Legalize it and tax the shite out of it..

This is how the street dealers keep their jobs, by still being cheaper than you can get it at a dispensary because they don't charge taxes

6 pages of replies and y’all fail to realize that legislators cannot and will not fight big alcohol distributors like Mockler who are actively doing everything they can to push away CBD/THC products, all while under the cloak of protecting people.

Can’t remember the last time sometime OD’d on the devil’s lettuce.

I am not under any delusion about the number of middle class people who smoke daily. I know a bunch of them. Some lawyer or mortgage guys who never have to worry about testing or getting sued for something happening on the job.

None has a job where they are drug tested

Young adults who didn’t go to college can step right into the middle class if they will work hard. Show up on time. Don’t smoke.

Yes. Legalizing weed would really be a plus for Louisiana. Stoned employees are the best

Oh, I'd say the stoned employees in a couple of dozen states are FAR better than our "sober" employees...

Thats the best way to keep the black market viable.

This is why more illegal weed is grown and sold in Cali than legal weed... Taxes are too high, burdens on growers are massive.

Considering all of these groups talk about how overworked they are... and how they don't have enough employees / resources, you would think they would be happy to be able to focus on more serious stuff than weed.

But... they make a LOT of money off of weed being illegal.

So here's an idea... make weed legal, tax it, and send all of the tax proceeds to the police, sherrifs, and district attorneys.

That stoned restaurant worker could get a middle class job if they didn’t smoke. A lot of people are selling themselves short by needing to smoke weed.

Doubtful.

I haven't read through all this thread but Newell went about this the wrong way. She cited deep rooted racism as to why weed laws were enacted to begin with. Why even include that? Point out how much money the state would make and leave it at that, the history is irrelevant.

I also caught the tail end of the speakers and saw some tard from some whatever Baptist policy center get up there and go on and on about "think about the kidsss!!!!1111!!!" that schtick is played out, come up with something new FFS.

The powers that be in the state must not have completely worked out how they can siphon all of the money from recreational sales to themselves.

This is the biggest hold up. It makes no sense why LSP, DA's, etc. are so opposed. Last year's session basically legalized up to 14g so it's not like they're making a shite ton of money off weed arrests.

I know the NOPD doesn’t care. When I was in Nola a few weeks ago just about every other person was smoking a blunt out in the open. A few of em were doing it just a few yards from some cops.
