A little update from the wife just now. The Russian army has encircled Donbas region and is closing in on her city Lisichansk. The Russian are stationed in villages outside the city and they both have been shelling back in forth. If you have soldiers around you, you are not safe even in a village.
She is being told to expect the water to be cut off tomorrow and fill the bath tub and empty containers. There is no more meat in the groceries but her parents have chickens, ducks and rabbits so she is sharing with her neighbors. Her parents no longer have internet.
The picture of the boy I posted living in Kharkiv, Micha is scared and crying. They did not experience the shelling my wife did in 2014 living close to Lugansk and Donetsk. So they are freaking out some.
I did hear of an American being arrested by Ukrainian police verifying what my wife told me, "you will be arrested if you come here or if you would have stayed." She also told me that if you go outside after the 5pm curfew that you will be shot by Ukranian soldiers. Russia has put infiltrators into Ukraine before the war, so they will just assume you are up to no good.
She also told me that since she was a Doctor in Ukraine before we married that she might not be able to leave. All Doctors in Ukraine are considered part of the military and can be conscripted to work at military hospitals.
That being said, she still doesn't regret her decision to stay. Ukrainians are a different breed. The main reason I married my wife was because she was beautiful, smart, independent and low maintenance. I don't do well with the princess type. I just prey her in the baby will be okay.
As for my attempts to get back to them, it has only been shut doors. I contacted churches, charities and the Ukrainian embassy. They all have told me that it won't happen.
Lets hope that peace is negotiated very soon. I will just have to see how this plays out and I'm not a patient person.

I hope most Ukrainians stayed to fight. No need to leave. Way I see it is if you leave, don’t ever come back. Fight for what’s yours

I'm not completely sure why they would arrest Americans. I knew the separatist or Russians would arrest me, our embassy website said this much.
I guess they are suspicious of any foreigners that are in Ukraine right now. I know they have been infiltrated by individuals looking to carry out attacks. My wife told me that the army was checking documents at the groceries yesterday. The American that was arrested, was born in Ukraine and is doing a reality show there, something about dancing. He wouldn't give any details other than to say he was arrested, and later released.
I'm not too worried about being arrested by the Ukrainian army. I have birth certificates, marriage certificates, I'm sure they would release me. I just found it odd myself.

You should contact that baw who is going over there to join the fight. He had a thread on TD somewhere. Two more people and y'all could be the A-Team.

Just saw a live interview on Fox of a woman and her kid walking across the Polish border. Said she was going to Miami to be with her husband.

Today was the first day I could actually hear the bombs while talking to my wife on Whatsapp. The previous times, she could hear the bombs while we talked but I couldn't. She also told me that her ears were ringing from bombs this morning when she went to the groceries. For now though, her conditions are not bad. She has internet, utilities, water one grocery store is still open. They also have a flea market outside her apartment that farmers sell eggs, milk, etc. You can also get other supplies at the market.
Kharkiv and Kiev are a different story. Her cousin in Kharkiv said they were giving out loafs of bread and drinking water at the church. I'm afraid the humanitarian situation will get worse by the day in those cities. Lets pray they will negotiate something soon.
Her sister in Russia says the news there blames Ukrainian army for bombing the buildings. The sad truth is we can't trust the propaganda from any country.
I asked her 15 year old son if he was scared. He told me, not really. He then told me my wife (his mother) worries when he goes to the groceries. He said he will pick up a rifle to defend his country. I told him he didn't need to die for any politics.
I asked my wife about her getting out until this is over and she said she can't leave now. She has heard of people getting killed in their cars by bombs trying to leave. She also told me, I will not be able to get to her right now. That I should wait until planes are able to fly into Ukraine again. I can't say the thought of waiting appeals to me, but the situation could change in one day. If they come to some sort of negotiation or if one of the armies prevail, the situation will be different.
My plans right now are to fly into a neighboring country, perhaps Maldova at the end of March. Then see what I can do from there. I will have to go to Washington DC, to Ukrainian embassy to get a visa before I go. I have no idea what will happen once I get into Maldova. I guess we will see what the situation will be when I get there.
On a side note, my daughter was eating chicken heart soup with them. The food wasn't always to my liking when I was there lol. I had stomach issues the whole time I was there. I also had to buy a mattress because I couldn't sleep on the lumpy bed in our apartment any longer. It is rough living there, but the people are strong.

The end of March? You don't think this will be over by then?

Like I mentioned it could change any day. The longer this drags out, the worse it will be for the civilians of Ukraine. I would rather see Ukraine surrender than drag this out. They can always do guerilla warfare after surrender. The only good thing about them holding out is they are getting more international help and sympathy, but at what price?

These are the comments that still make me think your wife sympathizes with the Russians and has no problem with them taking over. I feel sorry for your son, but she chose her alliance.

I have no idea. I pace the floors now. If I can't check on them, I will absolutely go insane.
My thoughts before the invasion was that Russia was going to knock out all communications when they invaded, to keep the Ukrainian army from being able to communicate. If they haven't stopped it by now, perhaps they can't. I'm going to assume Ukraine could be receiving help from the US or other countries keeping them online.

99% of Ukrainians feel that way. Realistically, whatever freedoms they would lose under Russian rule would still be much better than the current everything being closed and the threat of being shot or bombed at any moment.

Those are my thoughts, not hers. If this drags on for months, the civilian loss of life will be terrible.
As for my wife, she is against politics. She was against the revolution in 2014 and she is against this war now. As for being a Russian sympathizer. I will say this. Things or worse in her city since 2014. Prices are doubled and most factories are shut down. The Ukrainian government that took over in 2014 was one of the most corrupt governments in the world. This is a big reason why they were not allowed to join NATO. This was also a big reason Zelensky was elected. He played the President of Ukraine in some TV show where he fought against corruption. I guess that became his image, true or not. I'm pretty sure Ukraine was paying Hunter Biden $80,000 a month to do nothing. What was that about? Didn't Trump want Biden investigated for his affairs in Ukraine?
All that being said, she wants Ukraine to maintain their freedom. She is trying to get my daughter dual citizenship. We were looking to buy a house there in June. If it becomes Russian territory, I might not be able to visit there.
Neither of us care for politics. I will put my trust and loyalty with God.
