I was liberal arts and make 6 figures in tech.

Should my student loans have been capped because I was a liberal arts major?

No.

Tuition reform needs to be a focus at state universities.

Federal loans are capped. Banks can loan additional money on top of that. Are you saying we should let the government tell banks how much money they can loan?

Where does it end and who makes the call? What about loans to go to a crappy law school?

Yes.

For the same reason I can't get 90% loan for a 10 million dollar house. Government needs to responsibly give loans (if they are doing it at all).

I know someone who has a 100k in student loans with a music degree. Would any of y'all loan someone 100k to get a music degree? No, because you probably wouldn't get that money back.

An argument could be made they should accept that responsibility if they are going to give out subsidized, low interest loans with very little due diligence performed on the ability of the borrower to repay the loan.
Wait, what?

So, after a person asks for the loan, signs the promissory note to pay it back, takes the money, spends the money, goes to classes, and it's the lender's fault for giving them the money, not the person took the money and got the benefits?

It's an incredible transfer of blame. And it leaves out the taxpayer--who will ultimately pay for this.

What did the taxpayer do to deserve this burden? They had no part of any of the decisions made by the borrower. None.

how about the federal government just get out of the loan business and put that risk on private companies. Tax dollars are already spent on the universities therefore they shouldn't be risked on personal loans.

If they can't understand "you take the money, you pay it back" should they really be allowed to vote, handle sharp objects, or even enter college?

Quite the indictment on the value of "education", iddint? By this assessment, the government shouldn't be spending anything on it.

The only way the cost of higher ed is ever going to come down is if the government stops offering federally guaranteed loans to anyone who applies.
Obviously. Tragically, it's taken some three decades to figure that out. Many still are demanding the same model applied to healthcare. What will the result be?

and all institutions offering degrees need to pull their head out of their asses and realize tuitions are fricking insane now.

i really dont see why any kid would want to take on the type of loans they will incur when they could go into a trade school and do much better.
