We need to limit these constant tax elections to once per year - first week of November.
They just keep wasting our tax dollars by pushing these proposals at us in the hopes that they get their way when we are not paying attention.

FWIW, lots of library supporters voted against Thrive because those voters did not want the mayor to take $52 million of the library's fund balance, and after talking to library administrators, they knew that 8.3 mils was forced upon them by the Mayor and Council members who supported that proposal.

Those citizens knew that Thrive's failure would lead to this scenario in which the library would have to come back with a "stand alone" proposal. By that I mean that fund balance stays intact, and there would be no splitting of a higher millage. "8.3 to the library, and 2.8 to the general fund, for a total of 11.1, the amount/level you previously approved."

I would like to see numbers on how many people they service at each branch. That downtown one is a bum hotel for sure.
the downtown library sees more people than the Pride, Scotlandville, and Greenwell Springs branches

And maybe Baker

The Greenwell Springs should no longer be considered a regional branch, it’s pathetic

Yes I’m aware. However they very well may have cut off their nose to spite their face here. There’s a whole lot more people paying attention to these millages and they’ll go out and vote.

The Police Dept is 150 cops short and running out of money. If public safety fails, it won't matter how much money or branches the library has. Until those library nerds are getting robbed and call 911, only to get put on hold due to shortages, they'll never understand priorities.
