No way I would go to college and rack up 100k plus in loans. I don't really care what degree it's in. Makes me question the decision making skills some of you have.

Lol me too- 140k here. I think it'll be worth it though

It better be volde. That's a lot of skin cream you'll need to prescribe.

You'd think so, but, there is a growing problem with new vets and their loans. Tuition going up but start salaries are not.

I'm going to be doing a bit more specialized work so it shouldn't be as much of a problem. It's general practitioners that are getting in trouble nowadays.

Starting salaries were going backwards for a while. Tuition probably up 25% and market saturated regardless of what anyone says- it will get worse before it gets better.
I met a vet this spring with 580k in accumulated undergrad and dvm loans and realizing after the fact the hopelessness of the situation. Not a misprint.

EDIT: as for specialists, their pay is double or triple what a newbie makes, although they accrue quite a bit of interest during the internship(s) and residency- at least the numbers show they can pay if off. Big diff between 65k and 140k income

Vet's pretty much have the lowest average salary of all professions who get the name "Doctor" in front of their name.

Anyways. I'm not out of school yet but I assume i'll finish with something like 180k student debt

Will most likely pay it off in 4-5 years if not married though.

I'd think that's an overestimate, unless he's been out of school for a while. A friend of mine was making 115k at Rite Aid and less now working in home health.

The thing about retail pharmacy, the salary u start at and what u make in 10-15 years is pretty much the same, you are doing well off the bat but it doesn't go up much

I get a dollar raise a year, per hour
