Why wouldn't I want the ring I'm going to wear every day for the rest of my life to be beautiful to look at?
Exactly. Why have a beautiful engagement ring...if you are never gonna wear it? What...you just wear it while you are engaged and then only wear the wedding band after? That seems more of a waste of money than wearing both daily.

You guys have missed my point. Forget about the ring, I'm saying you get the band and only the band. The ring goes bye bye

Whenever I go internet dating, all I get is medical professionals. I'm thinking nurses don't make good long-term companions. I believe that they make enough money to be independent and feel like they "deserve better" and are never happy very long.

So when you propose, you are doing it empty handed? Nothing to seal the deal?
Good luck with that
Good luck with that

He should sell the engagement ring to pay for the wedding band and other important things, like boats and guns.

You can get a pretty engagement ring that doesn't cost that much
I consider myself fashionable/stylish. and I wouldn't wear a plain looking costume jewelry ring (I will wear cheap jewelry tho). So like I said, if I'm wearing it every day for the rest of my life, I want to like looking at it

No you just give them the band when you propose and that's it. How friggin hard is this to understand?
You guys that are saying "good luck with that" must realize how superficial a woman has to be to be upset about this.

Far from it. I just grabbed my crotch when I told her we were getting married.

Because that band is the wedding band...that is placed on her finger on your wedding day.
How hard is that to understand?

Like Paige said...you can get a very pretty engagement ring cheaply if you don't have a lot of money. Most reasonable women know the budgets of their SOs and don't expect their SO to go into debt over a ring. But they still want an engagement ring. It's not about being superficial...women want the tradition. It's one of the biggest questions they will be asked in their lives...they want to look down at their hand and have a daily reminder of that moment.

WUT?
Are you new to this country/culture?

Oh I'm not doing that
but I'd like to see it start to be done so we can finally get rid of that diamond hoarding a-hole company that drive the prices up. I'll get my SO a ring and band like everyone else but won't spend half of what the average person does

Starts thread looking for a bunch of ataboys. Doesn't find ataboys. Gets mad.

I didn't know most women wore their engagement ring daily
or at least my wife or most women I know don't

I think it is generally accepted and understood that the larger the diamond the more you love them. So if you only give them a band, you must not even care.
