and his chances of succeeding if he does.
If he gets in, he'll almost certainly succeed. Peer pressure works both ways.

Notice how nobody who went to harvard, Yale, or princeton ever admits it on here?
I don't think we have any posters who graduated from those schools here...althou
Do you personally know any one who has gone to any ivy?
They never mention it because it's embarrassing to tout your own accomplishments. That's a hold over from mostly old money attending. The scope of classes attending (middle classes) has broadened but the values and beliefs are still those of the wealthy.
The People who claim they got in but didn't go are tasteless for their bravado.
Most of the time if you ask a Harvard grad where they went to school they will say Boston.

I have had clinical interns from all over the country. I have seen some good ones come from Ivy League, but I have also seen some real idiots. Then again, I have seen some of my better interns come out of "Podunk U" types of schools who excelled well over some of the so-call prestige schools. Personally, I think that the Ivy League degree is a nice social toy, but while it might get you on someone's porch a little quicker for a few years, what you actually do is what is going to get you into the "house" and let you stay there.

Yes, I posted earlier about knowing several. As you said, most of them don't make a big deal out of it. The smartest kid I ever knew from high school went to Harvard and blew through it, but hardly ever mentioned it. I know a few that are a little obnoxious about where they went.

Not the ivy league peeps I know. They aren't brash about it mostly, but it isn't like they hide it.
I always feel like those who went to Princeton and Penn are the most personable

Yeah, I would think most people realize that answering a direct question cryptically is a lot more douchey than simply saying "Harvard" and moving on.
Not to mention technically inaccurate in this particular case.

ivy leaguers are primarily responsible for the sorry leadership society in general now has.
Filling out bullet points on a resume is what they are most trained at doing. 7th graders doing shite to look good on a prep school app is abnormal.

Roughly 90% of Harvard graduates are getting degrees with straight A's
Bush2 got mostly low C's and a few Bs.
Seems likely that they changed the grading system.
It used to be very competitive.

I graduated from Stanford undergrad and grad and knew plenty of guys who went to LSU and other state schools.
Average Student at Ivy League school was smarter than average at State School.
Smartest Students at LSU were just as smart as the Smartest at Stanford.
Many of the students I went to school with at Stanford simply had better access to education, were pushed harder by their parents and had more time and money invested into their education than most of the people I grew up with. I easily could see many of the people I knew who went to LSU doing just as well or even better if they were given the opportunity.

Most students at Stanford got A's or B's in classes. C's and below were pretty rare. Common saying is that getting in was the hardest part. Graduating is easy because of all the resources you have access to.

Exactly. This, for me, was the difference in education.

My kids grandfather was a Yale grad and did the same thing if asked he just said Connecticut. I was married to his daughter for several years before I knew he graduated from Yale.

Also different objectives in that regard.
State schools have no choice but to operate as if their students were baby sea turtles (a lot are born, only a relative few make it to the water) due to issues such as huge student population, funding issues, etc.

if you think you are the smartest and disregard whatever else is in the room, you're at a disadvantage form the start

Some co-workers and I once tried convince a younger employee to go back to school, he said it would be a waste of his time because they probably would not be able to teach him anything. After contemplating what he said for a moment I replied that I thought he was absolutely right, everyone but the young employee got the dual meaning.
