Odd, stats show we only average about 43 a year. Truly incredible they account for 177% of all dog related human deaths.

They make up 70% of dog related deaths but only about 6% of all dogs.

They should be humanely eradicated.

Thank you

My parents and sister were hobby breeders for 60 odd years combined, between them they had a ton of different breeds, from little rat terriers to German Shepherds, Shar Peis, Afghan Hounds, Corgis, you name it. Wife and I have been a two or more dog family for most of our lives, and we are not young. We've had a variety of breeds too. Jack Russel, Schipperke, Aussies, etc.

You know what the common thread was among all those breeds? What they were bred for ALWAYS manifested somewhere in their behavior over time. Schipperkes were the most determined ratters I've ever seen. German and Australian Shepherds were protective herders. Shar Peis acted like the farm dog that they were - disinterested in anything that didn't represent an immediate threat to their "farm". Afghan Hounds, God help you if they got loose, because they were born to run and that's all they wanted to do.

Pit Bulls were bred for one illegal thing. Those instincts have a high probability of leaking through, no matter how "good" the owner is. The breed should at minimum require a license to own. There's a reason your insurance company will require special riders or drop you if you own one. Insurance companies are very good at calculating probabilities.

What needs to happen is, municipalities need to ban them first. Period.

Then entire counties, and then it will run up the chain from there

Too many people want to be seen as Bad-asses, so, these Pit Bull demon dogs will always be popular.

When our American Ghetto Culture changes, this will change.

The problem is what someone else already stated- how do you determine what is or isn't a pit bull? Where do you draw the line on Pitt mixes?

It's not the dogs.

It's the type of people who inherently own those dogs.

How many bad, irresponsible labradoodle owners are raising killers?

Surprised it's actually that few.

I'm sure they bite and disfigure many more.

Schipperke

Had a professor in college who owned on of these. At a get together one evening, his wife showed us how the dog would defend anyone who was holding him. It didn't matter who was holding or who was the aggressor.

What do we do about this?

Ownership should be outlawed, and they should all be rounded up and kilt. They offer nothing for society.

Damn! Can you imagine how many non-Americans that they kill? Must be in the thousands.

If the head looks like a cabbage with a bear trap inside then it can probably kill, no matter the percentage of pitbull.

If chihuahuas were as big as a pit bull, you could probably triple it. I was bitten as a child by my grandmother’s chihuahua. The other dog that bit me was a lab during a scuffle with another dog.

Pitbulls/gs/doberman/rotties all are capable of killing a person. It’s rare that there aren’t warning signs though. Usually you know if a dog shows aggression - it presents long before an attack.

I have a pit bull mix. Never shown the slightest aggression toward another dog or human. If he attacked unprovoked, I would no longer have him. I love him. But I would never keep any kind of aggressive dog capable of killing. I also wouldn’t pass an aggressive dog to someone else to become their problem. If our dog showed aggression, I would be a good pet owner and taken him to be humanely euthanized. It would break my heart, but I would never endanger another animal or human.
