If it's being read as a historical text and other religions' holy books are treated the same, not an issue. If it's "this is a Christian country so you'll read the Christian Bible," not gonna happen.

Hmmm. I didn't read that part. My point still stands. I specifically remember my 12th grade world history class having religious texts intertwined throughout the lessons. I'm a devout Christian, and I found it fascinating. Helps you to make sense out of a big world.

Why not? It’s an historical text.
This is asinine and intellectually ignorant.
If you're okay with mandating the reading of the Quran. Maybe you are okay with that, but I'd be willing to bet a lot of hypocrites on this board are A-ok with the bible but would scream that their country is being co-opted if they were forced to read any other "historical text" of the same nature.
Read your kids the bible. That's fantastic. The bible has great ideals if you have enough sense to not take it as literal word of god. Do not put that shite in school. It's called separation of church and state.
Also, Hs are not silent.

I’m not so sure, Texas passed a law requiring the 10 commandments to be posted in classrooms

as long as you are so cool with ALL of them being read... as you said, why not? they are historical texts...

How can you even discuss morality without at least acknowledging religion's place.
It is not the public school systems job to teach morality.

We were taught about all of the major world religions in high school, and so were our kids. It's okay to learn about stuff lol.
Being taught basic principles of world religions =/= being required to only read passages from the Bible and have the 10 Commandments in every classroom. One is academic, the other is a 1st Amendment violation.

Yes. The correct religion and it will help to prevent further degeneracy of Texas. Who can be against the prevention of cultural rot?

I understand people are against it... it just boggles my mind that the most popular text in human history is ignored in education.
It isn't. It can be a part of the curriculum as a study of religions or history.
Teaching from it and/or using its substance as the lesson is a different matter than teaching about it for public schools. SCOTUS will put this to rest once the Fifth Circuit is done slapping down Jeff Landry's Ten Commandments law.

public school is supposed to be about education, not indoctrination. Should there be a class on the major world religions? sure. This is pretty much the right wing version of trying to trans up other people's kids.

are you saying that morality can ONLY be derived from theology?

absolutely, it is... as long as you are not pushing an agenda, which this seems to be...

why don't you just come on out and say you want a theocracy, akin to how they do it in Iran

The 5th Circuit already said 3-0 the LA law was plainly unconstitutional, and they just had an en banc hearing that will almost assuredly say the same thing.

Excerpts? Sure. Nearly 1/4 of the entire world is Muslim. It is a fool's errand to even attempt to understand world politics without having any idea what deep cultural and religious roots people come from. I mean, we are talking about school.

How many times are they going to try this?
