I only use NextDoor for 2 things - recs on people/businesses to use for home repairs and what not, and finding good deals on used stuff from time to time. Got some free heavy duty shelves for my garage on there last year. Just had to go pick them up.

The only time my Nextdoor really popped off was, oddly enough, when a church was moving into a new building not far from our neighborhood and someone posted about it and saying they didn't want "those type of people" around the neighborhood. I was confused because I thought "Those type of people? You mean Presbyterians?" Turns out she was one of those militant atheist folks who hates all Christians but it led to a gigantic shitstorm in the thread. It was a fun read.

One thing that nextdoor and facebook have taught me is that I am pretty heartless concerning dogs. I just dont care if they hide under the bed or other such nonsense. They are dogs.

I live in a very nice town but it directly borders Chicago (and not a good area of Chicago), so I also regularly see "Gunshots or fireworks?" Luckily, it's pretty much always fireworks.

I posted a pic of my dogs outside watching the fireworks when someone in the neighborhood got to complaining about fireworks.
One thing that never fails is when the electricity goes out at least a dozen or so people will post their address letting everyone know their power is also out.

No lie. I was outside last night when I heard (2) different guns fire off about 4 rounds each, one first that was closer followed by the other further away. My first inclination was to head to NextDoor to see if the olds started freaking out yet.
