The USPS must be a portal to another dimension
He said being under mostly government rules, they are way more COVID averse and there hasn't been more than FIVE people at the USPS distribution center in months. Normal staffing is like 50-75.
He said packages are stacked to the ceiling at the warehouse. Said it looks like something out of Raiders of the Lost Arc.
I expect to get my shipment sometime in 2022.

Ok, geniuses, people are getting a LOT more packages delivered to their homes than ever before. Each package takes time. We do not have more mailmen. Therefore, it will take a little longer.

Pandemic coupled with a lot higher than normal shipping level occuring contributed mostly to the issues, but the 2006 legislature changes to the USPS is when the post Office started back sliding and losing tons of money every year - prior to that it was efficient (compared to todays standards, and turned a profit).

nope, its about employees calling out due to 'covid' and typical government policies that encourage this behavior. (imagine latoya running the post office and you'll get it)
USPS is being run by a skeleton crew all across the country.
meanwhile, UPS & FEDEX aren't missing a beat.

the calling out is valid - at the early onset of covid, people where my wife works were taking the "leave of abscense due to fear of illness" path and bringing home guaranteed 40 hour paychecks, when they would have only pulled 28 or so hours in a week.
I do not fault them for playing the system, i fault the companies for allowing them to get away with it.

And they are about to raise their prices on parcels again. In two weeks

UPS and FEDEX don't go to every house in the country every day.

Package I sent via Priority mail to Austin on 1/4 has not arrived. Package I sent via first class to Seattle on Friday was delivered yesterday.

Weird that these problems were somewhat uncommon prior to 2020 when a new Postmaster General took over and a pandemic hit the world.
Hardly! I have two local post offices, one for home, the other for work. Both are incredibly bad. The incompetence is astounding, and has been for years. All COVID did, was magnify it.

Before anyone throws out the union excuse, UPS employees are Teamsters.

Companies were handcuffed to complying by the FMLA. Even small companies that normally do not have to comply with FMLA had specific rules on how to handle COVID leave of absences.

Not even remotely a fair comparison, FedEx,UPS etc can and do decline to deliver packages they don’t have capacity for, and also don’t have to deliver to far out rural locations if they don’t want to (though current practice is they just pass off to USPS for the final leg)
USPS can’t refuse a package, and must deliver to middle of nowhere rural America.
ETA: I’ve had terrible experiences with USPS before, they suck to deal with when something goes wrong. However, they are fighting with one hand tied behind their back right now, comparing them to private companies who don’t have to play by the same rules is unfair

that's true - I guess what I should have said is the fault should be placed on the policies set to allow it to occur in the 1st place.

the USPS mailtruck makes as many trips around my neighborhood as UPS and fedex. they are 'on loan' to amazon or whoever but they come at all times of the day & night now.
